What are the best foreign movies you've seen?

  • Definitely have to add my +1 for “The Lives of Others.” It’s one of my favorite movies, period, and was what immediately came to mind when I saw this thread title.

  • Another +1 for “Amelie.” How incredibly sweet, and not in a syrupy way. You can’t help but to root for the girl the entire time, and have your dark little heart lit up.

  • “In the Loop” was hilarious, and is on my list of favorites of movies, foreign or not. Doesn’t feel like a foreign film to me considering everyone is speaking English and there are so many American actors, but it’s British, and very, very funny.

  • “Nights of Cabiria” (recommended to me by a Doper) was an awesome find and receives full marks.

  • I don’t know if “Persepolis” is something I would describe as one of the best I’ve seen, but I saw it not too long ago and enjoyed it a lot. I reckon y’all would too.

That’s all for now.

Delhi Belly

Also, Mesrine: Part 1: Killer Instinct

I haven’t watched it yet but it’s in my queue and I’ve heard it’s great.

All are currently on netflix.

Two excellent films.

Also from Australia, a wonderful comedy, The Castle.

Probably not everyone’s taste, but I enjoyed Troll Hunter, from Norway.

A science fiction noir, Alphaville. From France, by Jean-Luc Godard

I really liked Moon and Troll Hunter. It’s funny, I never thought about Moon being a British film since it stars Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey (his voice, anyway.)

I almost forgot: Lilja4ever… chilling.
