Re the stories you read about various nightclubbing celebrities doing various stupid, out of control stuff, what drugs are they probably doing in addition to alcohol? What are the popular party drugs for the elite?
I came in to say alcohol, but I suspect extacy and cocaine.
Cocaine, absolutely. One reason it’s so popular among the wealthy is because it’s very expensive ($50/gram or more), so it’s almost like a fashion accessory.
I thought cocaine was popular because it meant you could eat something and still stay Hollywood thin.
Not what the OP is looking for, but I remember hearing once that the most widespread “addiction” in Hollywood is to Visine. Apparently even the regular amount of redness in the eye looks bad on camera, not to mention the eye irritation from make-up and bright lights (and, perhaps, other drugs), so people are constantly dropping eye drops in before each take. A rebound effect then kicks in where eyes get redder than they would be normally when you overuse the drops, which encourages continued use and technical physical addiction.

Oh sure, that too. I did say “one of the reasons”. 
It can also be taken relatively inconspicuously, (that is without creating smoke or using needles), it gives a nice short high that won’t capacitate you for several hours when you’re popular and expected to be somewhere (like a hallucinogen effectively would), and it’s pretty and white! None of those icky Trainspotting-esque images associated with it. So all in all, the perfect drug for the rich and famous.

I vote for prescription painkillers and anxiety meds. Legal with a prescription and you don’t have to feel guilty about taking them because a “doctor” gave them to you. And they are fun to abuse and inconspicuous to carry around.
Maybe he’s just looking for something to talk about when he meets celebs.
I doubt ecstasy, for the opposite of the reasons cited in favor of cocaine. It’s commonly associated with teeny-bopper raves, so using it would have no cachet. An exception could be the rap community, because it is sometimes directly referred to in song. (Fat Joe rapped in “What’s Love”: “We be trippin’ all night/ Like we was on E”)
Meth is the drug of choice for rednecks, pot is for teenagers, hippies, and hippie-wannabes. Crack and heroin are for the dingy and downtrodden-poor (or rock stars, in the case of the latter). My vote also goes to powdered cocaine.

I’ve been reading that coke cut with strawberry Quix and other flavored powders is popular. (supposedly this is Lindsey Lohan’s drug of choice) But I dont’ really get how that would work. Back in the drug fueled eighties, my crowd actually experimented with coke a lottle and it seems like adding strawberry Quix would just be a sticky mess. Maybe it’s just a wild rumor…
Thank God that someone has found a sensible use for Strawberry Quik. I would hate to imagine that people would be tempted to actually DRINK it.
I bet appearing on the cover of a national magazine produces at least a minor high.
