What are you a "snob" about?

Okay, I get your position then. Yes, it’s snobby. I share your view. People are free to enjoy their vacations anyway they want, but I’ll judge them for some things. Not taking your kids to the ocean because of “sand” is a terrible way to raise a kid. (in my opinion, of course). Days at the ocean are some of my favorite childhood memories.

How far is OC from their home? I mean, if you aren’t going to the freaking beach, why not just go to a local hotel that has a pool?

Ha, yea. We used to set off bottle rockets. Thinks where a little less strict back in the late 60’s.

She didn’t want to track sand into the motel room?

I’ll join you on this. You go places on vacation to do things you can’t do at home. The motel pool is fun, but I’m not taking a week off work so the kid can swim at a motel.

It always took me 8 hours, including a 45 minute food and stretch break.

She said they aren’t going to Assateague Island because tired of driving. It’s a 20 minute drive.

I think it was more getting sand on themselves and their stuff.

And the snob wars continue. Last night I made myself an adult beverage and my gf told me I was doing it wrong!

I put a big ice cube in a rocks glass. Pour in some bottled lime juice, then fill with vodka.

My gf says I should use real limes, squeezing fresh juice, it would be better. Thing is, I see her point. The drink would be a bit better with fresh squeezed juice, but bottled juice is way easier.

Hell, I’ll go you one further. What is w/ the snobby lime juice? A glass of vodka ain’t good enuf fer ya?

(Paraphrase of a conversation I had w/ my mom. Mom used to drink gin, dad scotch. In college - when I was WAY TOO OLD to do so, I went on a road trip with them. I drank G&Ts. Somewhere in Texas I walked out of the hotel room, ostensibly to buy tonic - but actually to light up. My mom said, “Why do you need tonic? If the gin is too strong, add a little water. BUT NOT TOO MUCH!”)

And I wonder were I got my drinking habits that resulted in me being sober these past 20 years!

She’s Anakin Skywalker, isn’t she?

Honestly, it’s a move to satisfy my gf’s feelings about drinking straight liquor. She drinks a glass of wine in the evening and that’s fine. If I have a beer or three, that’s fine with her also. But drinking a glass of vodka is not right in her eyes.

So, I came up with my lime juice workaround. I claim it’s mainly juice.

Vodka? It has no taste- try dark rum with that.

She is correct.

I don’t like pure hard liquor, but if I have to drink one (when somebody buys a round of shots), I always order vodka just because it almost tastes like nothing but alcohol. But vodka lemon (with Schweppes bitter lemon) is a very tasty long drink.

I love the crisp taste of vodka kept in the freezer.

Sparkling wine in that range is not Champagne. The best sparkling wine outside the Champagne region is a few wineries in Spain that have revolted against the cava label and produce under the appelation Corpinnat. Two wineries in that region of Spain, that produce really good sparkling wines made using the champagne method are: Gramona and Llopart, and are reasonably priced at around 30-35 euros.

I’ll give them a try. But you’re probably still in the $50 range by the time they get to the shelf in Washington state.

(So I can continue to be snobby about cheap sparking wines.)

I’ve only seen the Llopart in the US and only one or two of the vintages. Best is to go directly to the source if. you can

Most people I know, including me, are snobs about what they do professionally. I can be downright patronizing to anyone attempting to explain almost anything about my field(s) without actual training or extensive experience in that field.

And I’ve learned over the years that, snobby though they might be, they’re usually correct. Most fields are complicated, taking years if not decades to understand intimately, so when an outsider pretends to understand something, they’re usually going to get things wrong, often seriously, majorly wrong.

Most noticeable is when a field is portrayed in movies or TV, and reality gets ignored for the sake of a simple plot line. I’ve been accused of being a snob simply for pointing out how some major plot development could not possibly have happened “like that” by someone who got pretty angry at having her enjoyment spoiled by my unrequested point of criticism.

“Snobbery is the most egalitarian of all vices. Everyone knows someone to whom they feel superior.”

I ran across that in an Ian Fleming novel (probably On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, but I don’t remember). I don’t know if it was original, or if he was quoting someone else.

Vodka has no taste. or very little. Several other potions would also work in the freezer.

My mom did this when we were very little before she went back to work. To this day, this is the only cinnamon roll I like. SO good. I didn’t see you mention letting the dough rest in your recipe. When I made pieroshkis ages ago, I rested my dough for the first time, and it was the best, flakiest pastry I ever made. I don’t bake anymore, though, I’ve considered making some pie dough just for those cinnamon rolls.
