Tomorrow I need a present for the company Santa Swap game.
So I’m giving the couch throw shawl that my ancient neighbor gave me last year, which I suspect she regifted to me.
A tin of roasted peanuts ('cause they give me gas). Not really regifting as such – I’ll just find someone who really likes peanuts. Hopefully tomorrow.
A jar of jam, and a box of tea, both in flavors that the recipients will enjoy more than I. Both are fresh this season (i.e., not last year’s jam).
A package of Ghirardelli chocolates (“classic selection”). These are going under the tree as a Santa gift. I won this at Bunco on Monday but I’m not a chocolate fan, so I’m passing them along to someone who will enjoy them.
I don’t know yet. Usually I get some gift card that I won’t use. Last year it was Cracker Barrel. We’ll see what it will be this year.
Other than that, I rarely regift.
A set of snowmen salt and pepper shakers. I don’t really do much in the way of Christmas decorations.
“Regift” is a spectacularly ugly word.
I actually plan regifting into my Christmas budget. Anything I get at work is usually redistributed to my librarians or my kid’s teachers or something. This year, I did well enough to take care of my aunts and uncles too. I’m passing along a bottle of vanilla lotion, a lovely homemade candle, a box of truffles, and a Christmas-themed Mikasa dish.
The shrinking of my shopping list is one of the best gifts I could possibly get right now, and I do appreciate the generosity of my co-workers very much! Of course, in keeping with the rules of re-gifting, they will never find out what I’ve done.
I have never regifted in my life.
I used to agree. Was strongly opposed to it. But when I started getting gifts that there was no way I was going to use, I figured that someone might as well enjoy them. (I’m thinking of the sweatshirt with Mickey Mouse Bowling on the front - two sizes too small… I don’t wear sweatshirts, I don’t bowl, and I’m not really a Mickey fan - and it didn’t fit!)
I bought a computer game packaged with the expansion. I took out the expansion CD for myself, and gift wrapped the rest of it for my boss.
I’m regifting a bunch of DVD movies…as I have for the past three years.
As an aside, I had a home theatre installed in one of the rooms on the main level shortly after my home was built, so I never go out to the movie theatre anymore and usually just buy movies when they become available on DVD. The timeframe for the transition from in-theatre to DVD is becoming shorter and shorter for new releases, which is great for collectors and buffs like me. All my friends and family know I love movies, so they all get me DVDs for the holidays. As I have quite a library of movies I’m continuously augmenting, there’s about a 90 percent chance I’ll have anything someone gives me. By the way, for any of you avid DVD movie collectors out there, I highly recommend Movie Collector, a very easy to use, comprehensive utility for organizing and cataloguing your entire movie library…very reasonably-priced.
Anyway, the great thing about regifting DVDs is, since I only regift a DVD I already have, I can be honest when someone asks how I liked the movie they gave me. They feel good because people always like when others actually use a gift they’ve given, and I feel good because it was one less gift I had to go out and buy for the five to ten regiftees on my list. It’s a win-win!
Well I got an electric carving knife for my birthday yesterday. As I already have 2 I’m looking to foist the latest addition on to some deserving soul
Happy Birthday Chowder!!
A Lush bath bomb. They make me sneeze.
I don’t get that many things, so I seldom have to re-give anything. That being said, my sister sent me a gift certificate from Sears, so I think I’m going to use it tonight to get my Dad’s present. Plus use the leftovers on some sweat pants for me.
A bottle of peach cider. I had no idea any such thing existed and I don’t like peach flavor. Plus the ingredients read: "water, high fructose corn syrup, peach juice . . . " in that order. Mmmmm, a big bottle of sugar water!
I gave it to my sister to give to her juice-loving children. But I’m not sure that “Here, take this, I won’t drink it and your kids might” counts as “re-gifting.”
A tin of popcorn and candy from The Popcorn Factory. Got it from a client of my husband’s, I think we still have the 2006 Christmas Tin from The Popcorn Factory from her somewhere in the house, so we’re giving V2007 to the guys at the Library that my husband did his community service with.
Thanks
DARN IT - Happy Birthday chowder! Sorry I didn’t mention it before - I really need to read more carefully!
