Yes. Generally, to get multiple versions, you’ll have to buy an app, as the free ones usually only offer one version.
Not sure what the Chinese version of Klondike is, but one Solitaire that I can (sort of) recommend is Solitaire City Deluxe. I have only the free version, so I’ve no idea if any of the other games are the Chinese Klondike or not. It does have undo, and out of all the Solitaire games I’ve downloaded from the App Store, its the one I like the best. Nice graphics and sound effects (the “snick” of a card is perfect), it does have an undo feature.
Is the iPhone available on a pay as you go basis in the US? You can get it from O2 Ireland and UK for 400 euro with free wifi for 12 months. Do they have similar deals in America? Is that a good deal? I’m thinkng of getting one.
I just checked Yahoo and the currency conversion was $546 USD, compared to Canada at $653 CAD for 400 Euros. I havent heard of the iPhone being sold for a paygo service in either CA or US, but have heard of people buying the phone on the no contract price which works out between $700 CAD and $800 CAD for the iPhone and putting in a paygo sim.
Either your getting refurbed phones, or the competition between T-mo, orange, and the rest of the European providers means that there is a healthy stock of 3G’s and they can afford to price it a bit more aggresively.
I’d say its a sorta deal, you get wifi but no data but the price sounds reasonable for that.
It’s amazing how few I’ve seen, used or heard of from these apps that have been mentioned! And I thought I’d browsed all through the app store on the phone… Is there another way to get them?
On my iPhone, owned for all of one week, I’ve loaded:
Facebook
Wikipedia Mobile
NY Times
Chase Mobile (for my bank and VISA accts)
Zagat’s
PlugPlayer (I have a uPnP server at home, with MP3 and some MOV files)
iFitness (log and plan workout routines)
eReader
Sherlock (the complete Sherlock Holmes works) eBay.com client app Amazon.com client app
LinkedIn client app
Games:
Crosswords
iSpadez (a pretty good Spades game)
BackG Class
Sounds perfect for me, assuming DVDPedia is available for Windows. One comment/review mentions something called iSight “to scan all the bar codes”, which would be PERFECT, as I used to keep my ~350 title DVD/Blu-Ray/whatnot inventory cataloged on DVDSpot, and then they went kaput and there’s no way I’m typing all that in again.
Thanks for the info. Seems like a reasonable deal, but I think I’ll hold off buying until I know more about the terms and conditions. There’s bound to be a few. Can anyone tell me what the battery life is like on this version of the iPhone? I have heard the original had terrible battery usage times.
The one in particular that I bolded , you want to find out if you can disable data on the server end or if they already do it for you. Data is the last thing you want to go paygo on.
As for battery life , running 3G (which by the way you should find out if your gonna be getting it, if they have data blocked your going to be on the edge network) I get roughly about 4 hours before it gets to about 30 percent. That usuage is based on the fact that I have the screen at its brightest and doing alot of web browsing, plus the fetch email. So your going to hear a number of different things when it comes to power management.
If your just going to be running E (edge) or G (gprs) then the battery life will be alot better.
BTW I thought I should just mention , the above are gsm networks that predate the 3G network, just slower relatively.
Yeah, I’ve never really understood this myself. I was warned that the Spore game for iPhone was OK but warned it was “expensive.” So I went looking expecting it to be like…$29.99 or something and it’s $10.
Wait a minute? You buy a $299.99 phone, with a MINIMUM $70 plan that’s going to cost you $1680 over the life of the phone…
Just got my new iPhone today! I’m one of the first (though not *the[i/] first, but I’d say in the first 25-30) people in Vermont to get one.
I already jailbroke it (cause I’m shady like that…though from what I understand jailbreaking isn’t illegal…) and have the Facebook app, rimshot (mostly for the sad trombone :p), and the NES emulator.
Now to read through this thread in more detail and get even MORE apps…
Ok, my first question: is there a way to make it so I don’t have to input my username and password for iTunes every time I download an app? I mean, half the ones I’m getting are free, so it shouldn’t even matter. I have a fairly long email and password, so it gets annoying…
I don’t think so. It doesn’t require it every time, but what the rhyme and reason behind it asking for them, I haven’t figured out yet. (Kind of annoying when all you’re downloading is a free app or an update for an existing app.)
Yeah, I’ve noticed a few in a row only require it once (but those were all free, might be different for pay ones.) Maybe if it goes into sleep it requires a new login?
**Shazam **has already been mentioned. It’s a great little toy for someone like me who listens to very little top-40 radio and is therefore totally unfamiliar with bands and songs that everyone else is into. The only drawback I have with it is that it’s not very good about identifying music from the classical station.
Nanosaur 2 is my newest addiction. You maneuver your pterodactyl over the plains, through the forest, and around obstacles trying to capture eggs hidden around the landscape. Beware the roving raptors, laser cannons, and sentry robots that will do their utmost to knock you out of the sky. Fortunately, you’re not unarmed…
2 Across is a pretty good crossword puzzle app. Download new puzzles (some daily, some weekly) from The Chicago Reader, Houston Chronicle, The Onion, and more. Save games in progress and take another crack at them later.
WordBook is a nicely put together English dictionary. Listings include IPA respelling, definitions, hyperlinked synonyms/antonyms, etymologies and more. A great little tool for word nerds. Not free, but currently on sale for $3.99, and worth every penny.
Night Camera takes far better pictures than the built-in camera tool under low-light conditions.
Translator is just what the name implies. Enter text in one language and it translates it into another of your choice. Still has some bugs to work out, but it gets a little better with each update. Be warned that words translated into Greek, Russian, etc., show up in the respective language’s alphabet, which can make it a pointless exercise for beginners.
