If you want to automate the whole thing (and your bank works when them) look into Mint. Just about the coolest thing I’ve ever seen but my bank isn’t supported. I still use it to track my debt accounts though.

Out of all the apps I’ve tried so far, the following have impressed me the most:
Allowance: for UK users, tells you how many free minutes and texts you have left. m-Box Mail: not free Hotmail checker (a replica of the mail client, for Hotmail). FStream: radio streaming app (I have BBC Radio 3 and Radio 5 working on it). TubeDeluxe: London tube status updates and maps. Shazam: as mentioned already (song recognition).
I still use it to track my debt accounts though.
