Also, smacking my forehead that I didn’t have these even on my missed list:

mmm

Semi-related note: Any Tom Waits fan who isn’t familiar with his soundtrack to One From the Heart (1981) should become so. It’s loaded with very good to excellent songs (9? 10? 11?), and Crystal Gayle’s participation makes it stronger.

We got the John Lee Hooker version, which is the important one IMHO.

I have very positive feelings about both versions.

(not top-5 positive, but close)

mmm

Best of the rest of my list (without repeating other posters’ spares)

One Of Us Must Know (Sooner Or Later) - Bob Dylan. (I was this close to posting it, but had already gone with One Too Many Mornings. Now it looks like a shocking omission.)
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service - Propellerheads
On The Air - Peter Gabriel
Out Of Control - Chemical Brothers
Only You - The Flying Pickets (or Yazoo)

Ha, the first one where I could easily have voted for 4 or 5.

Odd. I was thinking this is a pretty weak lineup.

mmm

I’m with @MrDibble on this one. It’s a strong list of bangers for me too!

There are plenty of songs in there that I can listen to with pleasure. But a great song? Weeeellll…

ETA - Below average

Average. Most of the songs are fine, but there are none that I really like except “Orange Crush.”

It’s lighter than usual on “classic rock,” which may be a good thing for some people and a bad thing for others.

Not to dismiss the finalists–they’re all good songs. But considering the other choices I think there were more worthy contenders.

An interesting point that I hadn’t considered, but c’mon…

Our Lips Are Sealed? On the Road Again?

I know, I know…our mileages vary.

mmm

You got two Roy Orbison songs and a Willie Nelson- what more do you want? Maybe people just need to see a beatles song in there?
