Thanks for this. I only thought about it after I had made my choices and hoped that somebody else would post it.

ETA: “The Unwelcome Guest” is also a great choice.

Unchain My Heart - Ray Charles

Uncle Jeff- Arlo Guthrie

No dig at you, there are few U songs, but that’s probably one of the worst Dylan songs ever.

U Know What’s Up - 4*TOWN

Replace these if you want to, DrDeth.

pjd is correct, Prof. - take another bite of the apple.

No offense taken. It’s kind of a polarizing song.

Ahh, so they were. Take another two, Mustard!

Actually, this is a good example of why I prefer you make a separate post for additional entries, rather than editing an existing post and adding them there.

@Q.Q.Switcheroo only posted one entry initially, which I added to my list. Then, Q.Q. apparently edited that post and added 3 more, including Us and Them. I would have missed all 3 if @EinsteinsHund hadn’t pointed it out.

No big deal, I just don’t want to overlook anyone’s entries.

Neil Young had a similar song about that time. Two aging hippies who thought for a while that “buy American” was the solution for globalisation.

  • Uncle Salty – Aerosmith
  • Unwed Fathers – John Prine

Taylor’s version of “Up On the Roof” is very fine. And the results of these polls are almost inconsequential. Still “Up On the Roof” might be the best song on this list, and may be Carole King’s best song ever. A vote split could keep it out of the money.

In the “W” songs the votes for “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” were split 21 to 24 between King and the Shirelles (with one duplicate vote). It wouldn’t have been in the top five even without the split, but the competition shouldn’t be as tough in the “U”s.

Nothing personal — just a general comment. I’m glad you sent some love James’s way.

Under the Sea - Samuel E. Wright

From The Little Mermaid, the 1989 Academy Award winner for best original song.

And @Baal_Houtham , yes, I hesitated to split the vote for “Up on the Roof”, but wanted a bit of James Taylor representation.

I am dry. but thanks. I am having fun with this.

Care to grab another, @gkster?
