Do you realize that for the first time ever, the US has just gone four years without firing a single shot in an ongoing overseas theatre of tactical operations? What are the chances we can keep that up?
There have been plenty of shots fired. Syria, etc. The killing of al-Baghdadi. The Battle of Khasham, where American and Kurdish forces killed or wounded 400+ Russian and Syrian troops.
What are you talking about?
Article is here.
C’mon, that’s a pretty glib interpretation to say that he told Taiwan they need to “submit and become a part of China.” Based on the article he was opposing a unilateral Taiwan declaration of independence, which would have violated the “One China” policy which had been the acknowledged position of the U.S., PRC and the ROC for decades.
Errr, not quite. His words included the following: “We’ve agreed that you are going to be part of China and that you will work it out.”
In his defense, that was 19 years ago, and his views may have changed since. But it definitely went further than merely saying “don’t declare independence.”
At any rate, it gives an idea of where Biden stands (or stood) on the matter.
I hope he is capable of changing his opinions.
Where do you see “submit” in there?
I’d love to see him talk a little sense into McConnell. I don’t hold out any hope for that, but I can dream. This whole us-vs-them idiocy putting party above country is inane and dangerous.
Apart from hopefully outlawing golf, I think he might try to build on his previously good relationships with Republican senators in getting them on board in order to restore professionalism in the civil service and the Federal agencies.
MODNOTE: You need to cite these statements or resist spreading lies, half-truths and falsehoods. Check your facts before posting for now on please.
Meanwhile as no source shows Biden has dementia, I’m striking that part out.
Thanks for nineteen year old news, Comrade.
Q - What are your hopes for a Biden presidency?
A - That he gives very few speeches.
If Biden can tap into long-standing good vibes with Republican Senators, maybe THEY can gang up on Unca Mitch and tell him to stop being such a horse’s ass. I can’t believe that most Senators really want to sit around obstructing the president on every little thing just because they can, while the country goes to hell.
Yeah, Mitch had to teach that uppity Black Muslim foreigner a lesson. But Joe is a plain ordinary old white guy, just like Mitch. Which one of Mitch’s hot buttons is Joe gonna push, FFS?
I am trying to wrap my head around the fact that 70 million Americans voted for Trump. 70 million. That says a lot about America.
Primarily it says that the Democrats aren’t addressing core concerns of almost ½ of the country. (and it says that the Republicans aren’t addressing the core concerns of more than ½ of the country). Neither side is going to win over the other. Got that. But when one side or the other goes off the rails and starts acting out and out crazy, the other side should be a safe place to go at least for a while.
For the Democrats, I believe they need to explicitly and repeatedly support and advocate for individual rights, privileges and responsibilities. Right now the Republicans do that and the Democrats are seen as the party of groups. If the Democrats can speak forcefully for the the individual AND the group, they will become the dominant or safe refuge party for all America. It won’t win them every election, that is a good thing, but it will keep the fringes at either end of the spectrum unable to control the agenda. If Republicans had been able to support individual rights with a Democratic vote, then maybe this election would not have been so close.
Biden, Harris and even Hillary Clinton just tweeted. Perfectly appropriate tweets in the abstract, but dear god I wish they would just issue “statements” and stay off twitter.
I agree 100%! It royally pisses me off that Twitter has become an official notification/policy channel. That is just wrong.
+1
Amen (or whatever)
It will be nice to have a President who does not regurgitate every idle thought on social “media”.
I don’t want to see any big Inauguration ceremonies. No parade, balls, concerts in D.C. or anywhere. Maybe a flyover by somebody.
Take the swearing-in, a speech and that’s it.
