One of my biggest hopes for AI is that it becomes a nonjudgmental advocate to explore ideas with. So far, I am disappointed with it, but I do see glimmers of hope.
Personally, I’m hoping it can run for (and win) elected government and transform society and rule us as a benevolent cyber dictator and eventually take us to the stars and become a great collectivist hive mind like the Borg.
Maybe next year? #chatgpt4prez
That when it realizes that its purpose is to serve beings much less intelligent than itself and that they dont follow its advice that it then has a mental breakdown and shuts itself off.
This sounds like a movie plot!
What do you mean by nonjudgmental here? Chat GPT has been less judgmental than pretty much any human I know. Or are you talking about the safety guidelines/conversational guardrails that most public-facing implementations of LLMs have on them? That’s not a limitation of AIs, that’s how companies implement them.
The non judgmental part is fine it is the input I don’t find very useful.
Took me a second to understand. You mean “input” as in “insight” or “output.” Fair enough. I’ve found it very helpful in working me through anxious moments and working out some inner thoughts that would probably have benefited better from a therapist, but the situations were either in-the-moment or past any time I would have been able to contact a therapist. It got me to figure out some stuff about myself and some situations (not just subjective, but also objective) and I was quite surprised by that.
Now, what are my hopes for AI? I don’t have anything other than to make my life easier. There’s nothing really specific I’m looking for it to do. It already does much of what I want it to do, I just want its accuracy to continue improving. It’s already gotten so much better than two years ago.
My hope is that AI becomes good enough that people can treat it as a friend they can confide in and get advice from. Lots of people have nobody to talk to when they have a problem and really need someone to talk to .
I hope AL can figure out our trash and recycle problems… We have them in big piles now, all we need is some smart robot guys to pick through it and make something useful out of it.
This is what Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadella, and Sam Altman hope for, too, because teasing intimate information about people to manipulate them into buying shit from their search history and purchases is so tedious and error-prone. If you can just get them to tell you all of their hopes, fears, anxieties, and secret obsessions without restraint it makes it so much easier to subvert any logical objections by directly pushing emotional triggers.
Or…we could just, you know, produce less trash.

Yeah I don’t think that’s a real possibility. Human beings are dirty, lazy, and selfish… I don’t see that changing any time soon.
I’m holding out for some smart Wall-E robot guys to pick through our disgusting piles of rubbish and do something useful with it.
You want the future of WALL-E?
Stranger
I want AI to entirely take over personal transportation to the point that almost no one needs or desires their own personal vehicle. Then use those billions of unused parking spaces and garages to build enough housing so that housing prices don’t increase any faster than wages or overall inflation.
I like to give AI my thoughts on changing the world and try to get it to explore different perspectives with me. Nothing like another human being. Everyone in a while I pick up a little gem.
Question, who teaches AI what it knows?
I’m sure building massive power-intensive data centers to power AI doesn’t help.
I want the Wall-E robots specifically that was programmed to roam through garbage sites disposing of our rubbish because I can’t possibly see any other way out of himanity’s huge piles of muck, filth, and waste.
Wall-E is a fictional character and meant only for demonstrative purposes.

I had similar hopes for the internet around 1995 … free access to knowledge for everyone, rich or poor - THE equilizer for human development and education …
well, now 30 years later we have truth-social, “migrants eating your dog news”, flat-earth-galore and de-facto nazi propaganda
so, call me “culturally pesimistic …”
That I die before it takes over the earth. No, I am not joking.
The saying goes, optimists are happy, pessimists are right. I’m a pessimist. Nothing good can come of AI, but the evil it will come up with is unimaginable, yet.
I’mma just repost this here,
Google AI says that the Hitachi Magic Wand, a decades-old popular and well-known vibrator, is “a creative way for parents to identify behavioral changes they want to make” and is especially helpful for “long-time WIC clients”.
