I don’t mind “Best of” compilations from time to time. I’m a bit of a music snob myself and I think that some bands are just singles bands that just use filler as album tracks. Not many, but some.

There are some bands from the late 70’s and early 80’s whose one or two or three albums never made it to CD, but at least some of their stuff made it to a “best of” a little later. Sometimes that’s what you’re stuck with, although I’ve been known to deconstruct a “best of” album and edit the tags and album art to reflect the original album a song came from. That way I end up with incomplete albums, but that’s better than seeing a “best of” in the album column.

::shudders:: having “best of” in the album sort is almost as bad as having that column blank or “unknown.”

I do the same. One thing is that sometimes artists put new or unreleased material on their “best of” albums.

When I download from iTunes, I always make sure I’m downloading the original recording, rather than something from a “Best of” album.
