In no particular order-
Gone With the Wind–for the sheer melodrama of it. Scarlett and Rhett-meeow.
Casablanca–I refuse to explain why–if you don’t know, I can’t help you.
Singin’ In the Rain-fresh and fun, a romp.
Rebecca–for Mrs. Danvers, alone, if nothing else…
It Happened One Night–sassy and happy–movies need to be more like this.
Kind Hearts and Coronets–Alec Guiness is brilliant.
The Maltese Falcon–great thriller and I always forget the ending.
The Sound of Music–schmaltz, but good, solid schmaltz. 0h-ladi-oh!
Bells Are Ringing–Dean Martin and Judy Holliday (sp?)–perfect.
The Benny Goodman Story/Glen Miller Story–meh plots, but great music!
The Bishop’s Wife–David Niven at his best, really.
Something Evil Under the Sun–Peter Ustinov as Poirot–classic.
The Birds–mama…
Pyscho-see the Birds comment.
MASH
Four Seasons-good comedy about marriages.
The Sure Thing-a must for all teens.
Sixteen Candles-ditto.
Breakfast Club-double ditto.
Breaking Away–feel good film.
When Harry Met Sally–no explanation necessary.
Bridget Jone’s Diary-classic. (NOT the second one)
Sense and Sensiblity-good Jane Austen
Liam-excellent, powerful film about family and choices.
13 Conversations About One Thing–wonderful, intriguing.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind–excellent.
Love Is All Around
LOTR Trilogy.
Harry Potter series
Wallace and Grommit-why not?
and many more…
I have a question–anyone here remember a movie, came out in the’70’s with Michael Caine and Maggie Smith–he was gay and she was unrequited–it was a vehicle with alot of stars…can’t think of the name of it, but I would add that to the list.
If Lucy Fell
-I could picture myself making a pact like this. almost.
Drive Me Crazy
-guilty pleasure
The X-Files: Fight The Future
-you expected this, I’m sure.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s (one of only 2 purely romantic movies I’ll watch, the other being Playing By Heart)
-How could you not love Holly and Fred?
The Professional
-Elfie likes hitmen movies
eXistenZ
-just very very cool
The Haunting (1963)
I like the remake okay, but they left out my favorite line! The one about Christmas cards for Lance’s New England relatives.
The Boondock Saints
You know those threads about strange things that turn you on? There’s something about the twins and their prayers and their guns…
Go
lots of great actors, most of them around my age.
Disturbing Behavior
it’s fun and a little spooky.
Pirates of the Carribean
-I love pirates. And Orlando Bloom was kind of cute even without elf hair. And Depp rocks, even if I don’t find him attractive as Jack Sparrow.
the Jurassic Park triology
bad science? most likely. Still, I like the people running for their lives
The Santa Clause I & II
I’m .02% sure still that Santa is real.
The part of my brain that’s supposed to be entertained by non-comedic chick flicks was swapped out for the action movie/hired killers package. I’m happier that way.
Disturbingly, the IMDb user rating on this film is an unremarkable 6.6. It should be much higher; the film has an unrelenting dark humor and some great suspense regarding a lost lighter, a Colombo-like detective that just won’t stop asking questions, and an uncompromised ending. This has to be Elizabeth McGovern’s best role, Peter Riegert is as slimey as they come, and Swoozie Kurtz vies with Shelley Duvall as “Most Annoying Movie Spouse Who Deserves To Die.”
That version of Pride & Prejudice is just masterfully done. Love Actually is the ultimate “feel good” movie. Garden State just clicks for some reason. (I’m from NJ originally, so maybe it feels like home?)
(BTW, anyone who likes Garden State may want to check out Harold & Maude on cable sometime. Very similar feel.)
