::stands up, applauds RickJay:: Rick, I was just remarking three weeks ago that a die hard Cinci fan deserves EVERYONE’S respect. Sure, the Bears have had a lot of thin seasons, but YOU SIR, are truly a Bengals fan. God bless and good luck!

NBA: Phoenix Suns. Why? I don’t know really. I’ve been a fan ever since I was in High School and they accquired my second favorite player of all time, Charles Barkley. (Bill Russel doesn’t play anymore, so I can’t really say the Celtics). Since then, I’ve just been impressed with the moves they make, and the way that Jerry Colangelo always keeps them in contention. They’ve never really had a chance, mind you, but sometimes lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for (or whatever).
MLB: Seattle Mariners. I used to go love watching them on TV when I was a kid with my dad. They really, really used to be terrible but this is my one concession to being a fan of local sports teams. I can’t stand the Sonics or the Seahawks.
NFL: I don’t watch that much, but I’ve always liked the Dolphins. I used to think Dan Marino was great. And they have cool uniforms
NHL: Watch this even less than football. Eh . . . maybe the always godawful Bruins, just for the schedenfrude factor.
XFL: Gotta love the Orlando Rage, if only for their logo
Grew up around Pittsburgh, so OF COURSE my original affiliation was with the Pirates and Steelers. Happened to live in Denver during the Elway years, so the Broncs got the nod for a while (left before the Rockies moved in, however). Now I live judst outside Filthadelphia, so my affections go with the Phillies (O the humanity!) and the Iggles.
College football: Penn State; all my local acquaintences have pledged their undying fealty to Saint Joe Paterno and would probably declare a fatwa if I were to blaspheme his name by supporting, say, WVU.
NASCAR: Whoever’s on my fantasy team during a given week.
Hockey: Reggie Dunlop and the Charlestown Chiefs. Oh, wait, that was the team in Slap Shot. Never mind.
NBA: (snore)
NCAA Men’s hoops: Temple all the way, baby (well, probably not this year).
NHL: Dallas Stars
CFL: Calgary Stampeders
NFL: Oakland Raiders
NBA: Don’t care, but the Mavs are a nice story this year
MLB: Don’t care
jarbabyj - I’ll try to keep an open mind and remain civil on the boards. As long as you don’t start arguing that Majkowski was across the line of scrimmage. Than all bets are off.
Incidently, I’ve discovered the root of the problems with our teams. Back in the mid 80s, the Bears were great. Then Wayne Larivee stepped into the broadcast booth and the Bears started their slide into mediocrity. Fast forward 10 years to the late 90s. The Packers are at the peak of the NFL. Then Wayne Larivee stepped into the broadcast booth in Green Bay. The rest is history. The man is a curse. Hmmm…I wonder if there is a way to get him to work for the Vikings…
NFL: Detroit Lions. Superbowl win within 5 years, I know it!
MLB: Detroit Tigers. This is the year we go to the big show. Or next year.
NHL: Detroit Red Wings. What’s not to love? About 1000 future hall of famers on the team! This is the year we bring the cup back to Hockeytown where it belongs.
NBA: Bah.
College: Michigan in all sports. Go Wolverines!!
Hmm…::holding tentative hand out to shake::…ookkay…::shaking it:: As long as you agree that Brett Favre is a cocky son of a bitch ::running away from handshake::
I think…YOU’RE ON TO SOMETHING. However, I did decide a long time ago that since the Bears were having such a sucky season that I would root for the Vikings in the NFC…because I have a lot of Viking friends.
Best of luck to you next year…
by the by, this is a severe hijack, but what do Packer fans think of Reggie White retiring and then signing with another team almost immediately. Do you guys hate him or what?

NFL: Chicago Bears. I like the Bears, there’s a Chicago connection since it was my birthplace. Oh and Jim Miller the future? BAH! I say trade Cade and sign someone for a while until someone better comes along. I don’t know if I trust the Bears to draft any player competent enough to play QB or RB. Urlacher has redeemed them a bit, but you need a QB or RB to win.
MLB: Chicago Cubs. Yeah I know they suck, but my Dad took me to Wrigley when I was little and I was hooked. Nothing like singing along to “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” with Harry Caray when you’re just a kid. I’ll also cheer for the Yankees as my AL team. I cheer for the White Sox too. I don’t understand why there’s this “rivalry.” I want to see the city be successful. Besides, I don’t really have to worry about the Sox and Cubs meeting in the World Series, since this is the Cubs’ year and the Sox will never make it :D.
NBA: Chicago Bulls. I guess I’m pretty typical Bulls fan, since I believe that the league is just awful now and not even worth watching.
NHL: New York Rangers. The Blueshirts are my pride and joy. I used to like the Blackhawks, I still cheer for them, but I haven’t forgiven management since they traded Roenick, Belfour, and Chelios. Not only did they trade Roenick, but they got Zhamnov, that guy is such an underachiever it’s unbelieveable. They don’t really seem to get much in return from their trades. Except for the time they traded for Amonte from my beloved Rangers, wouldn’t you know it, the one time a player the 'Hawks trade for actually pans out it has to be a 40 goal scorer that used to be with the Rangers. The Rangers had to make that trade though, I wouldn’t want to still be waiting for a Cup. The problem with the Rangers lately has been they’re giving away all this to underachieving veterans (Kantplaysky) that can’t be traded because of their fat contracts. I think Neil Smith did make some good moves towards the future with Brendl, York, Lundmark, Mottau, Kloucek, and Malhotra. John (Sh)Muckler set the Rangers back.
College everything: Nebraska Cornhuskers and the underdog.
Racing: Don’t really watch it, but if I did you can be damn sure that I’d cheer for Dick Trickle.
NFL: Dallas Cowboys. I’ve stuck with them through thick and thin. Hell, I’ve even got an autographed poster of Roger Staubach up in my office.
MLB: Atlanta Braves
NBA: Really couldn’t give a crap less. I used to like the Celtics, but since Bird left, who cares?
NHL: If I’m going to watch a game at all, it’ll be the Stars.
NCAA: University of Tennessee. Go Vols! (Although, my wife bought me tickets to the Cotton Bowl for Christmas and they got stomped. Didn’t help that our seats were in the middle of the K-State section.)
The only sport I really enjoy is hockey and the only team I really support are the Halifax Mooseheads of the CHL/QMJHL.
As far as the NHL goes, things have changed for me. I used to like Montreal and Quebec (mostly because their farm teams were based here). Now I don’t really care. I thought this might have something to do with how well the Habs are faring these days, but the Avs are more than taking up the slack. I guess I support the ex-Halifax players, who are just now beginning to crack the NHL. Actually, I follow prospects a lot more in general. It’s a whole different experience.
Anyway, at the moment this means Colorado (Tanguay), St. Louis (Nagy) and Anaheim (Chouinard and Giguere).
I’ll also be hopping on the bandwagon of whoever picks up Pascal Leclaire in the 2001 draft. Of course, based on his ranking, there will probably be lots of room…
NFL: Well, as many here know, I used to be a Washington Redskins fan. But then I happened to watch a Ravens game where the Ravens had something that the 'Skins had long since lost (namely, a desire to win) and I got hooked. I’ve been a diehard Ravens fan for about three months now, and I’m not looking back.
MLB: I’m a fair-weather Baltimore Orioles fan. Specifically, when the Washington Senators come back, Peter Angelos can kiss my ass. 'Till then, I’ll support the O’s.
NHL: Caps. Kinda lukewarm about the sport in general, but I used to go to Caps games regularly with my father, so they’ll always be my favorite team.
Other sports: There are other sports?
Yeah, who was it that gave Detroit that title? I believe it was the people in Detroit. That definitely doesn’t count. If some hamlet in Idaho claimed it was the best city in the World would you believe it? Someone else has to give you a title. My choice is Toronto. I mean, come on, it has the Hockey HOF and the Leafs’ jerseys look cool. The Gardens? Toronto, definitely.
MLB: Cleveland Indians.
NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers.
As a native Clevelander I fell in love with both teams as a child. I remember going to my first baseball game at the old Mistake on the Lake in 1970, and my first Cavs game at the then brand new Richfield Coliseum in 1975. The Cavs were playing the Bucks, and Kareem Abdul Jabbar was on the Bucks and not doing too much until Luke Witte of the Cavs made the mistake of dunking on Kareem, which lit a fire under him and he just sky-hooked poor Witte to death after that.
NHL: no interest.
NFL: I used to be a devout Browns’ fans (go figure) but once the team left after 1995 I quit following the NFL altogether and I haven’t missed it at all. During last season’s Super Bowl I watched C-SPAN’s ‘Booknotes’ instead.
College: Notre Dame and Kent State, my alma maters, but during March Madness I root for whatever Mid-American Conference team makes the tourney. I front run root for Ohio State.
My favorites were developed early, and I’m fiercely loyal:
MLB: New York Mets. Unfashionable these days, but I’ve been following them since 1965.
NFL: New York Jets. Yeah, they’ve been terrible for much too long, and always seem to collapse in December, but after Super Bowl III, there was no other option.
NHL: New York Rangers.
NBA: none. I’m cognizant of the Knicks, but basketball doesn’t really interest me. Too much scoring. When they start having shutouts, maybe I’ll be a fan.
NHL…Blackhawks
IHL…Wolves
MBL…Cubs
NBA…na
NFL…Bears
NFL: Raiders and 48ers.
MLB: Giants and As
Football: Ajax, FCB, and I enjoy the ever changing Latin Leagues of SF.
College Football : Badgers.
and ummmmm… that’s like about it and stuff
NFL favorite team: Oakland Raiders
NFL most despised team: Seattle Seahawks
MLB favorite team: Chicago Cubs
MLB most despised team: Atlanta Braves
NBA favorite team: Indiana Pacers
NBA most despised team: Seattle Sonics
NHL favorite team: Buffalo Sabres
NHL most despised team: Dallas Stars
Nascar favorite team: Mark Martin
Nascar most despised team: Jeff Gordon
NHL: Toronto Maple Leafs
NFL: Buffalo Bills (Delphica, I feel your pain!!)
MLB: Ex-Blue Jays fan. Haven’t watched a game since the strike. Disgusting.
NBA: Couldn’t care less.
Cheers,
Hodge
Red Sox!
Other than that, I truly, deeply don’t care.
NFL: 'da Bears…been a Bears fan for
[sub]lessee…seven takeaway three, carry the two…[/sub]
over thirty years. Sayers. Butkus. Jack Concannon??!!?!?
NHL: Anaheim Ducks. Yeah, yeah, alright already. Sheeeesh.
NBA: 'Blazers, but the Clippers are gaining ground.
MLB: Angels and Cubs.
Add 'em up and I probably have a winning percentage of .286.
