Sam Shepard and Jessica Lange used to also live around C’ville as well as Christopher Reeves; its a pretty wealthy, horsey enclave near there, although I believe Robert Duvall now lives in the Plains, VA which is closer to northern Virginia.
Mellencamp lives near Bloomington, Indiana, one county west of his home town of Seymour.
I seemed to remember that former NFL great Terry Bradshaw was living in a small town in Oklahoma so I asked the internet. Turns out he’s lived in Thackerville, OK, near the Texas border, for fourteen years. He hasn’t been living a small town life however as he recently put his place up for sale for almost eleven million dollars. Says he wants to spend more time traveling with his wife and on his place in Hawaii. Here are photos:

A slew of famous people live in and around Nashville, including Reese Witherspoon, and Nicole Kidman and her husband, Keith Urban.
Out of the Way is Gerlach, Nv. Sorry, can’t think of anybody there. But a short drive west has David Coverdale, Captain and Tennille (huge in the 70’s) and Doug Clifford.
This made me laugh, as I met Mike, and he was about a foot shorter than he looks on TV! Both me and my wife said after meeting him, “Jeez, that other guy must be a midget!”
Michaell Moore lives in a little town outside Traverse City, in northern Michigan. Gordie Howe used to live there, too, not sure if he still does.
It’s pretty common for ball players to retire in their hometowns. Three Hall-of-Famers that I can think of were folksy and would sit and chat with anyone passing through who wanted to stop by and talk baseball with them on their front porch: Warren Spahn (Hartshorne OK), Johnny Mize (Demorest GA) and Grover Alexander (St. Paul NE). All now deceased.
You can make a lot of jokes and ribs in this thread. Example: one would think Neil Young would buy a place in Alberta.
And before she moved there, she spent most of her later years in Glengariff, County Cork, Ireland.
She put her Cork property on the market in 2014 :-
If you live in a city that ranks in the top 20 in population in the US and has a major airport, I think it’s a stretch to call it out of the way. I understand everyone on the internet lives in NYC or Hollywood.
Hollywood isn’t a city.
Because it’s only part of the second-largest city in the country, you mean?
My nephew’s wife helped Pam Cocker decorate that place. My nephew got to meet Joe. We were all jealous.
Jeremy Irons lives in Watlington, a small town just down the road from where I grew up. I have occasionally seen him walking his dogs around there. Nobody hassles him.
Most of the BeeGees lived in the town where I went to school. Two of them even died there too. ![]()
Also in the UK, I used occasionally drink in a pub in Aylesbury where there was a cartoonist who was a regular. He had drawn caricatures of the other regulars which were hung on the walls. There was Pete the plumber, Bert the truck driver, Fish the singer, Alan the barman, etc. I loved how the celebrity’s identity and profession were treated in such an equitable way.
It’s pretty amazing what elegant lives some of these musicians you never see in anything but jeans and t-shirts live offstage.
I believe Woody Harrelson lives around Lebanon, OH.
I have heard that Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel lived in a very rural place in Canada - at least for a time.
I Googled them and here is a quote from Kurt Russell’s Wiki page:
He and partner Goldie Hawn formerly took summer vacations in the Muskoka region in Ontario, Canada. They gave up their cottage after too many unwelcomed visitors would stare at their cottage through binoculars from Lake Rosseau.
I can understand “peeping” at a hot actress but, peeping at their cottage? How is that any fun or excitement? Especially once she reaches 70 years old?
I believe Randy Quaid lives on Mars.
While he never actually lived there, John Fogerty of CCR fame, has spent quite a bit of time in Elkhart, IN since the late '80s. His current wife, Julie, is a local girl and the couple would come and bring their children to visit her parents. It was not unheard of, in the 1990s, for him to quietly sit in with some of the local bands playing bars in the area. I was lucky enough to catch him a few times during that period. I left the area in 2002, so he might still be doing it, for all I know.
That is hardly out of the way. It’s a 45 minute commute to NYC. A lot of TV people who work in NYC live in Montclair. Yogi Berra lived there too.
Speaking of New Jersey Bonjovi still lives in Middletown. Springsteen lives in Rumson.
