As far as I know, Gary Larson (Far Side) still lives on Orcas Island in Puget Sound.

He did at one point, but sold that some years back. The township is in the metro area and being developed a little more than when he bought it.

All of North Jersey is an easy commute to NYC. My point was it was just a little town like every other one around it.

A lot of celebs live/have lived in Taos, New Mexico. David Soul used to live there but apparently he’s moved to London and now has British citizenship.
Gary Purghoff, Radar from MASH, lives in the little mountain town of Paradise, California. He’s a certified wildlife rescuer. Tom Selleck has a place up there, too, but I don’t think he lives there full time.

Long departed, but Susan Hayward lived in Carrollton, GA for most of her final years. Her last husband was from there. It was reported that she married a Georgia car dealer and farmer, which made people there laugh- he owned many businesses and farms and calling him a car dealer would be kind of like calling Tim Cook a computer salesmen. (He probably wasn’t that rich, but he was very wealthy.)
Generations ago there used to be a Hollywood colony in Cuernavaca. They owned vacation houses there and spent months at a time in residence, where they could keep a big house with a large staff for a fraction of what they’d pay in Beverly Hills, and socialized there. Names I remember are Merle Oberon, Helen Hayes, and Maurice Evans, but there were more.
She and Tom Arnold started building a huge house near Ottumwa (they split up before it was completed; I understand nobody else wanted it and it’s basically a ruin) and also owned a restaurant in the small town of Eldon, which is better known as the town with the “American Gothic” house. As an aside, that house was inhabited in recent years by the author of this book, which was a best-seller a few years ago; she has since moved.
Tommy James, of the Shondells, also lived in rural Iowa for some years, and may still. He married a woman from that town, and that was where they wanted to raise their kids.

Ted Turner lives about 20 miles from my house in Florida, and though it’s about 30 minutes from Tallahassee, it truly is the middle of nowhere. That part of the panhandle isn’t exactly a booming metropolitan sprawl, in fact it’s the exact opposite. Town called Lamont, off US-27.

For a while, Erin “Joanie” Moran lived in a trailer in Indiana with her husband and mother-in-law. Then there was a drunken fight, and Moran relocated to living in a hotel, also in Indiana (I want to say French Lick, but not 100% sure).

Funny what a small world it is sometimes. James’ family moved to Niles, MI, when he was about 10-11. I think they came from Ohio, originally, if I remember correctly. Tommy’s last name was Jackson, and his dad, Gary Jackson, was my dad’s barber for years.
