What big celebrities live in surprisingly "out of the way" places?

Warren Buffet lives in a medium sized house on Farnam Street in Omaha NE

I don’t recall if it’s changed, but Lynchburg used to be located in a dry county.

Yep. Sure as hell doesn’t stop them from producing Jack Daniel’s. As a matter of fact, they just announced an expansion.

See Broken Arrow Ranch - it’s way up in the Santa Cruz Mtns - technically Woodside, but pretty far from town. Any town. In a former life as a map maker we did drive up to the gate mentioned, at the end of his property, and declared that must be where he lives.

Eddie Murphy once lived in Granite Bay, CA, of all places. His old pad is up for sale now, for anyone with a few extra Benjamins laying around. Oh, and it does have a pool.

Burt Reynolds has a large house in a secluded area somewhere in Florida. He’s been showing up here and there a lot lately promoting a recent autobiography and is really looking old and frail due to injuries from all the stunts he’s done in his life. Still, he’s getting up there. He turned 80 today, as a matter of fact.

Wiki also says

And I know her mom lives close to me in Milwaukee (I can pin in down to a block or two). A year or two ago she mentioned the traffic coming back from her mom’s condo after Thanksgiving (to Chicago) and my sister (who lived nearby) would see her from time to time at her mom’s house. So I’m guessing, she at least spends part of the time (at least while filming) in Chicago, actually, I see now it says exactly that in wiki.
Make sense, if you have more money than God and you film in Chicago and live in California, you’re not going to get a Motel 6. You’re either going to buy a house in Chicago or fly back and forth every few weeks.

Big Dog (Glenn Robinson of the Bucks) lived somewhere near my high school. Granted, the Bucks are a Milwaukee team, but I’ll always wonder if he actually had to drive by right at 3:15 or if he just got a kick out of everyone cheering as he did it and made a point of driving past the high school as we were all getting out.

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn famously had a multi-million dollar “Cottage” (it’s a frickin’ castle) on Lake Muskoka, well north of Toronto in Ontario’s cottage country. A lot of celebrities and rich folks have palatial cottages there, but by all accounts Russell and Hawn basically spent as much time there as weather would allow so it was pretty much their primary residence for a long time.

Through his mother Michael Douglas has Bermudan citizenship and has a nice estate there. I was told he is treated like one of the locals.

Yeah but this thread is about celebrities living in out of the way places. Places away from the usual media hubs. Living in a suburb that is an easy commute to New York City is not out of the way.

At the end of his life Dudley Moore was living with a family in Plainfield New Jersey. No one knew until after his death.

Unless he’s moved recently, William Hurt probably has everybody beat in terms of finding an isolated and out-of-the-way place to live: Harney County, Oregon (i.e., where the recent farcical stand-off at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occurred) in the vicinity of Steens Mountain.
