Some friends of mine and I were discussing queer literature the other day. For the life of me, I cannot recall the title of one of my favorite books circa 1997 (though it was probably written significantly earlier). Google isn’t helping me find it. Do you recognize this book? Here is what I recall:
The principal character is named Liza. She works in a day care or preschool. She has some disordered eating behavior. Anyway, she ends up at a “lesbian cafe” where the owner comments on her purple pants (something like, “At some point, every woman turns to purple”) and eats coconut cake that is described in a truly questionable amount of detail and qualified as “so soft.” She buys a necklace with a tiny labrys on it. She goes to overeaters anonymous. She has a gay male friend. Somehow, she ends up a lesbian as well. I recall the cover was salmon colored and had a strawberry on it, but I’m not solid on that detail.
Anyone? This is bugging the crap out of me.
