When I was I kid, I’m certain we walked across the Rainbow Bridge one time in Niagara Falls, so that would be ON <-> NY and Canada <-> USA. I’ve also walked across the Alexandria Bridge between Ottawa and Gatineau, so that’s ON <-> QC. I think that’s about it. I’ve never lived near any interprovincial or international borders.
I’ve walked across the Massachusetts-New Hampshire border at Salisbury Beach/Hampton Beach many times
Walked across the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls, as others have.
Walked across the Nevada/Califorbia border at Stateline, on Lake Tahoe many times.
Crossed the Utah/Nevada border at Wendover, whose only purpose in life is to be the closest point on the Nevada border to Salt Lake City.
I’ve been near plenty of others (New Jersey/New York, US/Mexico , New Jersey/Pennsylvania), but not crossed over them on foot.
Arizona/Colorado/Utah/New Mexico.
I ran a lap around the Four Corners monumentand did the pushup like the kid in the picture.
Just remembered 2 more,
US > Mexico, walk across Rio Grande at Santa Elena Canyon.
US > Yukon Territory, Canada. Way the hell north of any roads in the wilderness, the border between the US and Canada is a line of trees that’s been clear cut. It extends for hundreds of miles out in the wilderness. We landed on it in a helicopter somewhere north of where the Yukon Rivers enters and spent about 30 minutes just walking around marvelling at it.
Zoom into it w/ Google maps and remove the labels. You can see the clean line of vegetation, the international border.
And MD to DE and reverse. Ocean City <> Fenwick.
I swam/waded the Rio Grande in Big Bend NP (near the Hot Springs) from Texas to Mexico.
I crossed from Minnesota to Ontario in a canoe.
Oh wait I do remember one. While living in Ottawa I walked from Ontario to Quebec several times.
Many times NC-SC, especially as a child at Carowinds. I’ve done the whole Four Corners pictures thing too, so there’s that. I walked across the border to Mexico once. There may be more but I can’t think of them.
US/Canada (Peace Arch Park, Point Roberts, and the Klondike Highway)
Italy/Vatican City
Washington/Oregon - bicycle
BC/Alberta - horseback (does that count?)
but looking at the list, surprisingly few.
Oh yeah, the partial building remains right on the river down from Rio Grande Village? Forgot about that one.
You can take a pleasant stroll over the IL-IN border at the Lincoln Memorial Bridge, which abuts the George Rogers Clark Memorial near Vincennes. Or a not-so-pleasant stroll on State Line Avenue on the East Side of Chicago.
One time I stayed in a hotel on the UT-NV border where the rooms were in Utah but the office, restaurant, and slot machines (of course) were in Nevada. I got a lot of crosses of the UT-NV border that night.
One common foot crossing, that I suspect other people are forgetting–in Cincinnati, a lot of the closest hotels are in KY, and you walk over the foot bridges to OH.
My family has a picture of me as a 10-year-old, straddling the TX-Ar border at the Texarkana City Hall. Also I’ve done Four Corners, Cumberland Gap, Clingman’s Done, Harpers Ferry, and all of the other low-hanging fruit.
Bicycle:
Canada-US
Washington-Oregon
Oregon-California
US-Mexico
Foot:
California-Nevada. I believe that the CalNeva Resort is on the border.
Nevada-Arizona Hoover dam.
USA-Mexico
Brazil-Paraguay
Argentina-Brazil (same day at Iguazu Falls).
Chile Argentina.
Thailand Cambodia
Several countries in Africa that I can’t remember. (You had to walk through customs).
Spain-France.
Possibly Malaysia-Singapore and Thailand-Malaysia but I can’t remember.
I don’t think I’ve done it either. But I was in a house in S. Attleboro and I asked the owner where the border was. He pointed at a house across the street and said it went through that guy’s living room.
I once stood in a tiny little island with a marker on it that denoted the US-Canadian border. We thought we were very cool straddling it.
Crossed between Kenya and Tanzania at Namanga. 1987, had flown into Nairobi (in Kenya) intent on climbing Kilimanjaro (in Tanzania). Got a ride from Nairobi to the border, but vehicle was not allowed to cross into Tanzania; we had to walk across and find another ride the rest of the way to Moshi.
I don’t recall for certain, but I’ve probably walked between North Dakota and Minnesota when I was a student at NDSU. Fargo and Moorhead are on opposite sides of the Red River, and there are several parks with pedestrian/bicycle bridges that span the river.
California/Nevada - at Lake Tahoe
Nevada/Arizona - at Hoover Dam
US/Mexico - at Tijuana
Can’t think of any others.
What was the occasion to walk into Arizona?
DC->VA
NC->TN
TN->NC
WV->MD
On a bike:
IL->WI
WI->IL
We were in Needles. Why, I couldn’t tell you. But several of us walked across Levee Way. I’ve also rafted, sailed and canoed between the two states several times, and walked across Parker Dam.
Walked from NC to SC (courtesy of visits to Carowinds theme park).
Biked from VA to DC, which doesn’t entirely count (“on foot”) but it was under my own power at least.
Other than that: none that I can think of!
VA/TN - State Street separates these two states in the city of Bristol, on and around which the Rhythm and Roots music festival is held. Each year, I cross back and forth between the two states hundreds of times.
NC/SC - I too have been to Carowinds amusement park and crossed the border there.
MD/DC - I’ve walked across Connecticut Ave from Chevy Chase, MD into Washington, DC.
