What can you do with your hands?

I just bought Donkey Konga.

:smack:

I’ll get my coat.

I was bored, so I decided to take pics of the other things I can do.

1 - Curl each finger up over the other one:

2 - Curl my thumb up onto the top of my hand:

3 - Bend only the top joint in each finger:

And man, lookit those tendons, eh? I can even hold a penny upside down in my index finger tendons. I managed to get a shot of it. It’s not completely upside down but obviously where it would fall out otherwise (and I included background things so you wiseacres wouldn’t think I just flipped the pic upside down ;)):

Whee!

I’m not the only one!! I’ve never met anyone else that can do that (warning: crappy cell phone photo), though I know a lot of people that damn near broke their thumbs trying.

Ooh, I can do this (I think). I know it drives a few people insane when I do it absently sitting in class - more than once, whoever’s next to me has grabbed my hand to make me stop.

I also have sort-of dislocatable thumbs (tragic volleyball accident in middle school), and with the right, I can pop it out of place and then bend the ‘top’ joint, so that, fully bent, the nail of my thumb points straight up.

Back in Saskatchewan, thirty years ago and more, in the days of the stubby beer bottle, I discovered a great talent. (The bottles were a lot like the small ginger ale ones today.) In the pub I hung out in, we played a little game. Hold a full bottle of beer low enough that your little finger is entirely underneath, and put a quarter on top. Now walk your hand up to the top, turn the quarter over, and walk back down. No bracing your elbow! I could do it all night, drunk or sober, standing or sitting. Then I’d call somebody out to try it, on the condition that if they dump the quarter they have to chug the beer, buy a round for the table, and try again.

I drank a lot of free beer that way.
