What can you not bear to watch, no matter how much you like the show?

Actually I was referring to your equating rape scenes & weddings as equally repulsive. I know you have kid(s), and I think I’ve read your mentioning that you were opting out of RO threads about children.

Evil dolls. The Twilight Zone episode Living Doll freaked me out as a kid, and I haven’t been able to watch anything with evil dolls since. I made the mistake of watching Trilogy of Terror years ago, thinking it would be ok and then the evil witchdoctor doll segment came on…

The only episode of the X-Files I have yet to see is the one with the evil doll. I just can’t watch them. They creep me out still.

Okay, in that case, one scene I can’t stand to watch on Roseanne is the one where Grandpa Al dies and Jackie has to call an elderly relative who is definitely hard of hearing and perhaps senile as well. Many people think that scene – “Dad is dead! No, DEAD! DEAD!!!” is one of the funniest in the entire series. I don’t get that at all. First, because it reminds me of many similar scenes with my Alzheimer’s-ridden grandmother – not funny then or now. Second, because in general, I can’t bear to see people repeating themselves louder and louder when it’s clearly not working. I will never understand why people bust a gut at that scene.

Draw bridges. Not the kind attached to castles, but the modern bridges on roadways that break apart to allow a large boat to pass underneath. Somebody informed me of their proper name in an old “irrational fears” thread.

Like the one in The Blues Brothers movie. Up and Down bridges freak me right the hell out, so I take a potty break during that scene, even if I don’t need to go.

(don’t bother filing this info away until your conquest. The Zombies will have got me long before you have the time to fiddle with details like finding a convenient Up and Down bridge, so neener-neener. )

Scenes in which people are humiliated in public.

Bullying, especially when it happens to children. Unless the bully gets his or her comeuppance later.

Scenes in which someone has to go to the bathroom really bad or has an “accident.”

So if there’s a scene in which some kid is being beaten and ridiculed for pissing his pants in class, I ain’t watching it. This is why I couldn’t bring myself to watch “Sybil.”

I also can’t stand scenes in which a baby or small child dies.

As with others, animals being harmed is a big nuh-uh!

Spiders. I can’t stand seeing spiders at all. Even still photos of spiders make me squeek and hide my eyes, but if they’re moving with that weird eight-legged-but-only-move-one-foot-at-a-time walk, I’m likely to levitate straight off the couch and up the stairs. shudders

But what if the animals being killed ARE spiders?

  • Kids hurt
  • Rape scenes
  • Throat slitting (any other form of gore I can handle)
  • (Somewhat strangely) Severe embarrassment. Movies and TV aside, I’ve even been known not to click on an SDMB thread which has a glaringly obvious stupidity of spelling error in the title, because I don’t want to see the poor OP getting piled on for it.
