I’ve tried googling and a reverse image search but didn’t have any luck.
I did a Google Lens search, expecting a result from 1960s Britain or Italy, but it turns out it’s a Nissan Figaro from 1991 !
Awesome. Thanks! I’ve never heard of a lens search.
I assumed it was 50’s European something.
Google Lens is an application for mobile phones, you can give it an image to search for or simply take a picture directly in the application, and it gives you links and other images that match it. That functionality is a bit like Google Image Search, but for some reason it’s better at recognising objects and shapes. It also offers some weird augmented reality functionality like translating text directly on the image. (article)
Ah. OK. I have an iPhone and there doesn’t appear to be an iOS version of Lens.
There is a version for iPhone, it’s in the App Store. Search for Google Lens for iPhone.
Gosh. Since the question is answered, I can’t help but say that the first time I ever saw one was about 10 minutes ago, and it is parked about 20 metres away from me as I type this.
It is drawing some attention from passers by.
You see a few of them here in the UK because they were built for the Japanese market where they also drive on the left.
(Veering way off from Factual Questions answers, but since the answer has been provided) … did anyone else vaguely think of Karmann Ghia?
There’s definitely a resemblance to the Karmann Ghia, but I was thinking of another German mini car of the 50s, the Goggomobil.
Answered before I even saw it. What’s funny to me is I remember when that car was new. It was a retro model designed to look like an old car from the 1950s. That car is now as old as the models it was aping were when it came out. It really is an old car, if not as old as it may look.
My humble opinion is that the success of the home-market-only Nissan Pike Factory retro models led to the wave of retro cars that started in the 1990s. We have the Figaro and its siblings to thank for the New Beetle, PT Cruiser, Ford Thunderbird, Mini, Fiat 500, etc., etc. some of which came out a roughly 15 years after the Nissan.
