Two from “Our Gang:” Chubby and Breezy
Most of the Gang were put out to pasture in their early teens, but these two started with the Gang when they were 15. Both of them were really short, and Chubby had some unknown medical ailment which ultimately took his life at 21.
In the background are Mickey Daniels (born October 11, 1914), Mary Kornman (*December 27, 1915). I don’t know the young lady in the center, but the one on the left is Mary Ann Jackson (January 14, 1923).
Chubby is obviously bottom right, and in this photo (dated 1930), is only one week younger than Daniels , one year older than Kornman, and eight years older than Jackson to his left.
One I just found out about. In the movie Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Seth Rogan and Elizabeth Banks play two friends who end up falling in love. Their characters are supposed to be the same age (they attend their high school tenth anniversary reunion together). But Banks is actually eight years older than Rogan. That’s unusual because usually you see an older actor paired with a younger actress.
Indeed, it’s usually more like in The Graduate, the classic example where the actress who played Mrs. Robinson was about the same age as Dustin Hoffman.
Not quite the same thing but also interesting (I think), in 1988 Sally Field played Tom Hanks’ love interest in Punchline and only 6 years later she played his mother in Forrest Gump.
I remember watching Larry Crowne - which to its credit had a scene where Talia (Gugu Mbatha-Raw is 28 but her character was younger) said that she liked Larry but he was way too old for her to be dating him (Hanks was 55 at the time). But the movie didn’t seem to think that Julia Robert’s character was too young to end up with Larry even though Roberts was 43. (And Talia ended up with Dell, who was played by the 31 year old Wilmer Valderrama).
Was Larry Crowne (Hanks’ character) also supposed to be 55 or was he a bit younger? If it was the latter, the age difference would obviously be lot less. (Also, as I get older, I don’t think 12 years is that big a deal either.)
Not really. For most of her scenes in the movie, she played the mother of “Young Forrest,” who was 9. She was 48. If anything, she was too old for her part.
IIRC, Field and Hanks don’t have many scenes together. And even among those that they do, Hanks is supposed to be playing a 20 year old kid and Field is supposed to be her actual age.
I thought that Mary Louise Parker, when I first saw her in “RED” was in her mid-20s, and I was wondering what she was doing hanging around w/Bruce Willis. Turns out, she’s close to 50 now (and, I think she looked closer to 50 in RED 2.)
In “Jeepers Creepers”, the babe, Darry’s sister, was something like 30 IRL.
Brendan Fraser played a character in Mummy I and II, that character’s son in Mummy III. There were rumors at the time of the last one that Rachel Weisz refused to play the same character in all three (that is, to play Fraser’s love interest twice and then his mother, in the same movie series). The mother’s character is inded played by another actress, Maria Bello (who is a whole year and a half older than Fraser).
I was watching an interview with Teller (the short and silent half of Penn & Teller) the other day, and he admitted proudly that he was 65. This was right after the Vermeer movie came out last winter.
Wow! I would have placed him somewhere in his early to mid-40s!
Melora Walters, who played Wanda on Big Love is 54 and was about 47 when the show premiered. She looks 15 years younger than that. She’s about 9 years older than he actor who played her husband (Shawn Doyle as Joey), but looks younger than he does.
