They had Robert DeNiro…now, just get Dustin Hoffman and Jack Nicholson to get the trifecta!
Felicia Day
Alyson Hannigan
Brian
Toby Young (although he was probably a lot wilder and funnier about a decade ago, and even now is too obscure to ever get it)
Jason Schwartzman, if he hasn’t done it already
and a few notable sports figures:
Chad Ocho Cinco/Ochocinco/Hachi Go (Bengals wide receiver)
Shaun White ("the Flying Tomato)
Jonny Weir
I have to second Johnny Weir. I really think he could be a hoot.
However, I orginally came in to suggest Jerry Lewis but I suppose he probably isn’t able to do something like SNL these days.
How about Cleese, Palin, Gilliam and Jones?
Bob Balaban is someone most people don’t know by name but he is very funny and clever and recognizable.
Craig Ferguson would be genius in my opinion.
Just watched the Oz clip. OMG that was hilarious! I’m checking Google video which seems to have a few Seinfeld on SNL clips
Dave Chapelle?
I just thought of an interesting one: Lorne Michaels. Let the man who created SNL host it. One sketch idea could be him stopping the sketch in the middle because it’s tanking, then redoing it in a better way. Though if that sketch isn’t the last one of the night, the audience may wonder why he’s not stopping more sketches when they fail!
Satan. I’d like to see the Prince of Darkness host SNL and engage in a little light-hearted self-parody. I’m picturing some real hilarity in sketches based on his temptations of Eve and Jesus.
Woulda been better back when Dana Carvey had been on the show: he could have been a guest on Church Chat.
Actually, Satan already has made several appearances on SNL—maybe enough for a “Best of Satan” special?
David Hasselhoff.
Second Rowan Atkinson
Jennifer Saunders
Viggo Mortensen
She was my choice too. Of course what I’d really like to see her do is one more episode of her old show where we catch up with Eunice, Mrs. Wiggins and the Mop Lady in old age (which might be depressing but with the right writing could be good), or Carol’s parody of recent movies. (I’d totally go to her house in New Mexico for ZOMBIELAND 2.)
Otherwise:
Niecy Nash (who isn’t that big but I. Love. Her., and she could do a wicked parody of CLEAN HOUSE).
Jim Parsons from Big Bang Theory (though this is liable to happen since he’s on a current hit show).
Reba McEntire- just to see her interact with Kenan Thompson- I’d be embarassed to admit how much I laughed at his absolutely dead on imitation of [a man who found a wig in a dumpster as] her.
Bo Burnham. He’s a kid but he’s a comic genius- his wordplay is on par with the best rappers and the best ‘Golden Era’ songwriters.
That would be awesome. I love the Mannings, and Peyton did a great job when he hosted (I love the United Way mock-commercial…Go sit in the porta-john! You suck!) While I don’t think that Eli has the same natural charisma as Peyton, I think it would still be funny.
Seconding: **David Boreanaz **and Allyson Hannigan.
What? No Eric Idle?
I think any (all?) of the Pythons would do a great job! If any of them were to do it single, I think Cleese would be the best. He’s got great recognition, can play both the looney and the straight man, and (aside from Idle, perhaps) probably the most in-tune with American comedic sensibilities.
ETA: And, of course, Betty White. Already joined the Facebook group to get her to host!
I’d love to see Dave Matthews host. I know his music isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but he’s always struck me as a funny SOB. More than most musicians.
His turn as Ozzy in this SNL skit was great, his sense of humor is the perfect SNL blend of politics and fart jokes, and from the stories I’ve heard him tell he’s got pretty good comic timing.
I’m also all for Betty White hosting and am happy that they’re in talks.
I think Eric Idle hosted. I seem to recall a certain level of “comforting” he needed from a ship captain played by Belushi because of some pirate problems.
That wasn’t him. That was the Evil Captain Kirk, from the Enemy Within episode, and he was just acting.
Best wishes,
hh
Eddie Izzard.
Eddie Murphy was the first cast member ever to host, but has he ever returned to host?
Actually, Chevy Chase and Bill Murray returned to host the show before Murphy did. John Belushi also came back for a couple cameos after he left.
As for Murphy, he hasn’t been back since 1984. He hasn’t even shown up for the SNL anniversary shows.
As for Pythons, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, and Graham Chapman have all hosted at least once. John Cleese hasn’t hosted but did do a guest shot/cameo once.
I note Buck Henry hosted 10 times the last time in 1980. He is due to return
Has Rod Blagojevich hosted?
