What channels are being eliminated by DTV

I know about ~700 MHz (about channel 52), but what about others?

I currently get 3 (H)DTV channels (not counting multi-casting). I also get two more analog stations. Thses stations are currently VHF. antennaweb.org says that channel 8.1 is currently on channel 41 but post transition is moving back to channel 8. I’d rather not get a new UHF antenna if I don’t need to.
(In addition to being VHF, the two analog stations happen to be located in a different direction and farther away than my UHF stations

thanks,

Brian

Never fails. I just found that channels 52-69 are what are being eliminated

Still wondering about VHF stations going back to VHF for DTV.

Brian

The lower VHF channels (2 - 6) are going away for good, and he spectrum will be reused. The upper VHF (8 - 13) will become available for DTV transmissions when the analogue stations stop transmitting. I don’t know if stations with their analogue signals currently on upper VHF will have to relocate their DTV transmissions back to their VHF channel.

The original plan was to reallocate the VHF spectrum. That got derailed by stations in rural areas that said that they couldn’t afford the electric bills for the UHF power levels needed to replicate their current analog VHF coverage. They wanted to move back to their original VHF channel after the transition to digital.

Not according to the FCC’s post-transition DTV channel assignments.

Look closely.

Any station that is now on a NTSC channel 2-6 is moving to a higher channel, mostly in the UHF range. Channels 7-13 and above sometimes keep their allocation, some move.

Los Angeles for instance.

LOS ANGELES	7	7
LOS ANGELES	9	9
LOS ANGELES	11	11
LOS ANGELES	13	13
LOS ANGELES	28	28
LOS ANGELES	5	31
LOS ANGELES	34	34
LOS ANGELES	4	36
LOS ANGELES	58	41
LOS ANGELES	22	42
LOS ANGELES	2	43

where the first number is the current channel and the second number is the new assignment.

2,4,5 are moving to UHF.

7,9,11,13,28,34 are all staying the same.

Channel 58 is being eliminated so they’re moving to 41.

There are plenty of stations that are ending up or staying in the VHF low-band.
