What Commerical Airports Share With The Military?

Well, I was flying home into Albuquerque today, and the airport shares the runways and airspace with Kirtland AFB. This is the only commerical airport I know of that does that. Are there any others?

The Boise airport and Gowen field here in Idaho shores a runway.

If you consider the National Guard as Military, there are many airports that qualify.

I recall changing planes in St. Louis, and being surprised to see a fighter jet screaming down the runway.

Fresno, Ca also hosts an Air National Guard Base. Sharing all runways AFAIK.

Early Out
In St. Louis, Lambert Airport has an Air National Guard Unit that flies F-15s. Boeing (nee McDonnel Douglass) is also on the field, and manufactures several fighter models there (AF and Navy). I used to see a Harrier hovering around there once in a while too.

Asterion,
Over at Scott AFB, in Illinois, Mid-America airport is civilian, and they’re linked by a taxiway (I think).

I saw the thread title and rushed in to post about Albuquerque. Just how many Dopers do we have here now?

I’m constantly seeing Air Force landing at Will Rodgers World Airport. (a tongue twister! try it)

Kind of a flipside response, and outdated no doubt, but in the 1950s I flew PanAm flights that landed at Wake and Midway. Those were military airfields that accomodated a small commercial air presence.

I believe PanAm also stopped on Guam back then.

There are tons of them.

Around here, we have the MQY (Smyrna, TN) which has a good sized military installation, a couple of airlines, and the place that turns 727s into houses.

BNA (Nashville, TN) also has the 118th Air Guard, flying C-130s.

Libby Airfield is in Sierra Vista, AZ and is on the property of Ft. Huachuca (Army Base) but serves the commercial air needs of Sierra Vista.

I’ve seen fighter jets take off and land at PDX. It’s my understanding that there’s an Air National Guard unit stationed there.

      • Yes, true. However, it’s difficult to call Mid-America a civilian airport as there’s no carriers flying out if it regularly last I heard–I think Pan Am was for a while (they might still be, but not very often). The entire Mid-America airport building is about as big as the average high-school gymnasium. It’s kind of a local pork-barrel joke; there’s no carriers, yet the operating budget gets bigger each year…

I believe an airport in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN area also shares their runways. I was heading to L.A. when I noticed one of those cool Blackbird jets sitting near a hangar.

Same here. Imagine my disappointment when I saw that the OP stole my post!

I’m not actually in Abq, but I’m from there. And I managed to convince my wife that we should move there for a while. (Jackass Baca isn’t still mayor, is he?)

The Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, Wisconsin, has the Wisconsin Air National Guard in residence.

In my hometown:
Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma (AZ) & Yuma International Airport

Heh. So did I.

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) shares it’s runways and parts of the southern area (Cargo City) with the Rhein-Main Air Base. Interestingly enough, the commander of the 469th Air Base Group, based at Rhein-Main, is a she: Col. Christine D. Prewitt.

Savannah, GA with GA ANG.

Charleston, SC with the REAL Air Force.
