What cooking utensil would compliment a white trash cookbook?

Antoher thread in GQ involving “lowbrow” food pointed me in the direction of the “White Trash Cookbook,” which looks like it would be a hilarious gift for my sister who loves and is good at cooking.

My question is . . . what cooking-related item could I send with it, that would both tie in to the book and be a great gift for a person who likes to cook?

I’m racking my brain . . . nothing is coming . . .

Look at the pictures for clues. First thing coming to my mind is a cast iron skillet.

Ooooh . . . that’s really good.

A can opener?

Really flimsy spatula with a broken handle?

shot gun?

I think the cast iron skillet is a great idea.

Not a utensil but…perhaps speed dial and a standard order at the local KFC?

A “KISS THE COOK” apron. Or a Jell-O mold.

Despite being a clever putdown of predominantly Southern “white trash” – all from one of their own – the cook book is for real and has some terrific recipes. It would be borderline criminal to recommend them to people overly concerned with nutrition and weight control, but for people who love to eat good, it’s the real deal.

Kitchen sink tomato sandwiches are a great case in point.

A good stout rolling pin to hit herself on the head with every time she uses the term “White Trash.” And one for yourself as well.

Spray can cheese.

An old wooden spoon. When it’s not being used to stir something, it works well for whacking the kids.

A flyswatter.

A good quality iron skillet and a set of wooden spoons.

I have that cookbook and it really has some great recipies. Reminds me of my grandmother’s cooking.

A big ol’ folding Buck knife, to be used for all cooking purposes including scraping the burnt gunk out of the pan. Plus it comes with a leather belt pouch so it’s always handy. Authentic WT style calls for a cheap Buck knockoff clone, preferably from the flea market.

This was my first thought!

Duct tape.
There’s nothing you can’t do with duct tape.

let me also add that a small family-sized electric deep fryer is a very useful addition to the southern cooking arsenal.

A Tupperware punch bowl.

A roll of aluminum foil?
