Biden absolutely did not do this.
Why is everyone agreeing with this 100% untruth?
Biden absolutely did not do this.
Why is everyone agreeing with this 100% untruth?
More like a 50% untruth, since he did vow to pick a woman (of undetermined race)
Yes, those are the actual facts.
Any analysis premised on the fact that “Biden vowed to pick a black woman as VP” is by definition incorrect.
Whether Bernie ever had a chance of getting the nomination is one question. Whether it was inevitable that Biden, who hadn’t come close to winning any of the first three States to vote, would be the one to beat him is a different, and much easier, question.
What I’ve learned is that the American people need a scapegoat. They need someone to blame for their problems. Kamala should have given them the corporate elites and the rich to blame for their problems. There’s certainly a ton of data supporting why wealth has not been trickling down. You gotta become an attack dog and rile people up against a common foe. She should have made the Republicans another enemy and said they’re trying to pull the wool over your eyes, but they are in bed with the rich and the corporations!!
It sucks, but it’s apparently the only way to win in America.
Thank you, you are correct and I misremembered. Was I correct in thinking that his promise to appoint a black woman to SCOTUS came shortly before the South Carolina primary?
You remember correctly. According to the NY Times: “Mr. Biden made the promise at a debate in February 2020, just days before facing his Democratic rivals in the South Carolina primary, where Black people make up a large portion of the party’s voters. At the time, his campaign was struggling amid losses in two of the early presidential contests.”
My FB feed is 98pct Dem to 2 pct GOP
I would give a math figure on the amount of thoughtful reflection here compared to the amount of criticism of the Dems in my feed but…any number times 0 is 0.
IOW your alls self reflection is to be praised and is magnitudes greater to my FB feed which is full of the usual accusations of racism and self-loathing minorities and ‘the election was rigged’.
So bravo to you all. Now find a peanut farmer who promises to be common-sense and appeal to all Americans and I’ll vote for him.
Hell, id have voted for him in 1980 and last Tuesday.
Given that Harris lost every battleground state …no, Shapiro wouldn’t have helped.
In hindsight I think she was doomed. If there had been a proper primary won by a straight WASP male with no ties to the Biden administration, the Dems may have had a chance.
Yoko was right.
Who is this mythical Democrat? Not that you’re the only one saying this; yesterday someone on the MSNBC show ‘Morning Joe’ said (paraphrasing) that if the Dems had run a 6’4" white man from a Southern state who’d played football, talked football, hunted and often posed with his rifle, drank beer, and talked about America for Americans and Strengthening Our Borders, then the Democrats would have won.
In other words, the Democrats could have won only by running a Republican.
My bolding. Yes, the Biden Administration DID have achievements that would have resonated with millions of voters if only they had known about them. It’s easy for all of us to forget that those millions don’t watch the news and don’t read the news and don’t know anything about the news. Reaching them calls for strategies the Dems haven’t used, or haven’t used enough. Podcasts: yes. Memes: yes. Events that everyone would hear about even if they never turn on radio or TV news: yes.
The 2007-8 financial crisis caused wounds that haven’t healed. As @TriPolar wrote (around #47), the Dems could have hit the topic of economic help harder. The ‘help people buy their first home’ plan was a good start, but more would have been better. Having to work three jobs to be in the same place your parents were when working one job–it’s widespread. It needed more of a focus.
But at bottom, talking about policies wasn’t going to be enough for those who were sold on the right wing promise of Eternal Childhood, with the Loving Father who would Take Care of You for Always. This is what Trump sold, profoundly creepy and weird as it was:

^This is that bizarre Rabbit Being Cuddled By Trump image that Tim Pool infamously posted. See below for a link to another page that features it (about a third of the way down).
Not all Americans crave this sort of thing. A taste for it may largely fall along lines of education; the less-educated may be more prone to believing that a Dictator is the way to go because a Dictator will Take Care of Them. (News flash: he won’t.)
Trump sold millions on the idea that he would Take Care of Them. And he sold them on the idea that LBJ expressed so bluntly:
To counter this, the Democrats would have had to reach the news-averse with planned economic help that they:
It was a tall order. How do you wean people away from the flattering lies they’ve come to rely on for the maintenance of their very self-image?
at Trump's Army of Online Losers Keep Making Everything Weird
Sherrod Brown, Mark Kelly.
Gavin Newsom also fits the description but being linked to California would probably be even worse than being linked to the Biden Administration in terms of providing an easy target.
Maybe. I see issues with each of those three, and I don’t think any of them could have defused the attractions of the flattery Trump (and FoxNews for years before him) had been heaping on that segment of the population. ‘You are the Real Americans, you are the Righteous, you deserve to be on top looking down,’ etc. Any of the Democrats you name would have told voters that we are a heterogeneous society that’s stronger for our diversity. And the Fox viewers would never have stood for it. They would have come out in droves to oppose it (as indeed they did in real life).
We’ll never know, of course.
Accusing Harris of word salad while Trump was within an ass’s roar of a microphone is the modern version of having to pull a plank out of one’s own eye before tweezing a sliver out of someone else’s!
This might be a large part of it. I love Harris and think she could have been a great president.
Democrats need to stop kissing corporate ass and running milquetoast centrists who can’t turn out a vote because they’re too afraid of their donors to actually offer the working class anything to vote for. Embrace working-class economic populism amd focus on raising wages, protecting workers, and combatting corporate greed. “I’ll give you a $25,000 credit on your first home” is worthless if all the houses cost $2 million and investment firms are buying them up. My sister has a home loan ready to go but can’t buy because every time she makes a bid, a corporation swoops in and offers cash up front.
Democrats need to run someone from outside “the establishment” who’s not afraid to make big promises and embrace working-class economic populism. Ban corporate ownership of single family dwellings. Put caps on price and rent increases. Make sure employers put employees before shareholders. Reform the tax code and take the burden off of people working paycheck-to-paycheck and onto the billionaire class. Offer tax incentives to companies that build and hire in America and penalize those who offshore. Establish a “maximum wage” that’s high enough that 99.99% of people will never have to worry about it. Ensure that employers can’t fire or lay off people arbitrarily just to juice their stock price, and create some sort of public works program that can guarantee a job to anyone who wants one.
A new new deal, if you will.
“But Trump” doesnt change a thing I said. “But Trump” is about as good of a slogan as “We’re not going back”. Which sounds more like a threat then anything.
On a different subject about what the Dems need to do…how about not funding genocide? That seems like a good start. Maybe repudiate your senile Presidents funding genocide. Maybe don’t embrace the Cheneys.
And now that its over, how about spreading the word to your media sycophants to stop blaming demos like black men, and Muslims and Latinos. How about actually trying to court voters instead of calling them Nazis? No? Wanna double down? Knock yerself out.
Hold on…I’m getting breaking news. I’m hearing “Election denying” and “claims of fraud” is breaking out at MSNBC. Great tactic. Whats that? “But Trump”? Sure.
If I had been a much closer race, I’d think there might be an answer to this thread, but as it played out, I don’t think so. There are things I would have suggested doing differently, but that doesn’t mean much.
How can you repudiate something that has never happened? You may as well say that Democrats need to close down the child trafficking ring at Comet Pizza and stop doing transgender surgeries in elementary schools and stop trying to get rid of cows and windows.
Sure Barack.

The US is funding Israel. The Dems are funding genocide.
This is why you lost because you don’t own any mirrors. The Dems are warhawks and they have trotted out warhawks since 2008.
But deny it all you want. Muslim and Arab voters disagree.
