Maybe it’s because “Chupacabra” is a tremendously fun word to say.
Agree – sounding much like, and comparable with, the definitely not-cryptid “cucaracha” (cockroach) – if I have things rightly, the starring character in the anthem of Villa’s guys in the civil war in Mexico approx. a hundred years ago.
Also because back in the 90s a Miami-based radio morning show had a great Chupacabra song set to the tune “Macarena”. And they did sightings updates. It was hilarious.
