What did I eat?

Mmm, I love Indian food – or at least the limited amount of Indian food I’ve been exposed to in my life.

Anyway, one of my favorites are these brown dumplings (about the size of a large plumb) with what looks like potatoes and peas inside, mixed with greenish spices.

I had one today, and I’ve had them before at several Indian resturants in the Washington D.C. area.

What are they, so I can ask for them in the future?

Thanks!

Samosas

a samosa

Quick and precise. You guys are like surgeons.

Thanks a bunch.

Beg to differ, but are these not bhajis - in my experience, samosas are like pasties. Although I’m posting from England, I wouldnt think that this waould account for the disparity, the food being an Asian creation.

Sorry about the double post, stopped it to correct spelling, too slow on the trigger.

No. Bhaji is somewhat similar, but is not served in the ‘pocket’ form that samosas are.

Ah well, shot down in flames once again!

Samosas are triangular rather than dumpling-iod so I’d second (or third) maybe bhajis

Finding pix of Indian food is surprisingly difficult!
Bad pic of samosa

Another crappy samosa pic (bottom left)

Some bhajis, at rest
(These look a bit more irregular than usual - but they always are a bit, so if the dumplings are smooth and round they’re not bhajis ether)

Methinks you are all wrong.

Samosas are triangular, filo-style pastry pockets filled with meat or vegetables.

Bhajis are generally onion-based - peas are unlikely.

Let’s hear it for pakora! (See bottom of page)

Ok - now I’m just hungry for indian food - mmmmm Masala dosa - Gggaarrr - Damn this thread!
