What Did Jack Do? Funny or just weird?

A friend recently suggested I watch the short film What Did Jack Do?

It is a 17 minute film by David Lynch, available on Netflix. My buddy described it as hilarious - and weird.

I made it through about 7 minutes before I decided the weird wasn’t enough to outweigh any funny that might appear in the final 10 minutes. But I look online and see many complimentary reviews, describing it as hilarious.

So what say you? (I have to admit, I’m not a fan of Lynch’s other work.)

I loved it. It was weird, yes, but I don’t think it was meant to be funny, and it wasn’t. I was on the edge of my seat the entire film.

Definitely weird. Definitely pointless. Most definitely boring.

There needs to be a “waste of time” option.

It’s David Lynch, so “funny and weird”.

I just learned from this thread that it was supposed to be funny. Not sure why people thought it was.

A murder is being investigated. How on earth people find murder humorous is beyond me. I guess those who are laughing have never been affected personally by violence. :frowning:

Yep.

I liked it. There is room and a need for experimental films. Some work better than others but they worth appreciating on their own merit.

I found it quite funny except it went on too long … or needed to change things up more. Sort of like a classic SNL sketch.

You don’t think

a guy interrogating a talking monkey (who is apparently having an affair with a chicken)

is funny?

Duplicate thread.

I thought it was hilarious, but you have to grok David Lynch to see the humor. And if you didn’t enjoy the first seven minutes, you wouldn’t have liked the rest either. You made the right decision bailing out.

That’s just the premise, it could be funny if they played it that way. I didn’t even get the feeling that it was trying to be funny and failed.

It’s exactly the sort of birthday present Lynch would give to himself.

It’s absurd, it’s all absurd, and that throws out any objective ideas about whether it was supposed to be funny.

Personally, I found parts of it funny and parts of it head-scratching at best.

The girlfriend just kept saying They’re on drugs. They’re all on drugs. And she’s seen Eraserhead!

I liked it, but I like David Lynch. It’s very Lynchian. If you don’t like Lynch, I can see why you didn’t like this movie.

Well, gallows humor is a thing.
