What did Scrooge, Marley and Cratchit Actually *DO* for a Living?

Perhaps Scrooge & Marley were -in modern day’s term- repo men. This would account for the use of a warehouse as a safekeep for repossessed items. This occupation also parallels nicely with the cold, curmudgeon character of E. Scrooge. Being “men of business”, they may have diversified their shrewd dabblings to include many ventures.

I invite some vagueness in literature. Let your imagination fill in the details.

I for one am surprised at how many of the participants in this original thread are not only still around, but logged in right now.
