Full trailer for Disney's A Christmas Carol...

oh… My… GOD!!!

If it keeps the Wandering Phantoms, the Two Waifs- Ignorance and Want, and the Pawnbroker’s Shop, it might just be perfect.

The real challenge is getting the Ghost of Christmas Past right. While what it shows is not absolutely canon (THIS is… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ES_jRwNx-EY), I think it’s still pretty good.

Jim Carrey Rocketing through the sky and that slapstick moment with the ghost of Christmas present… oh most definitely perfect.

It looks pretty, but I’m not sure this version will be any truer to the book than say the American 30’s version or the Henry Winkler version.

The ghostly carriage chasing Scrooge down the streets doesn’t ring a bell for me either.

I’m sure it will wow em with the animation and 3D effects but I have reservations on the story telling.

Are we going to get another story where Scrooge is just a mean old Miser rather than the epitome of the 19th century exploitive money lender and capitalist?

For now I give (albeit an ignorant)
Bah humbug!

I’d like to see a version where the ghosts… at least Marley and the spirit of Christmas yet to come are actually terrifiying.

It’s about time somebody filmed A Christmas Carol!

What was wrong with Disney’s “Mickey’s Christmas Carol”? :frowning: That’s my favorite, aside from the original. I think Disney should have quit while they were ahead.

For a solid, traditional adaptation, Scrooge (1951) is still the way to go. For a lighthearted approach with fuzzy animals, The Muppet Christmas Carol really isn’t bad.

This trailer: Loud, ugly, and crass.

Oh, and the word “humbug” actually means something. It’s not a random noise.

I dunno. I watched the trailer with the sound off and it looks like a video game. Which is good, because it keeps it somewhat outside the uncanny valley. Scrooged remains my favorite version of A Christmas Carol, aside from the original.

Wierdly, the muppet version is one of my favorites.

This one, I’m curious about. And I haven’t cared about Jim Carry for awhile(well, I like the Lemony Snicket movie).

Meh. The Muppet version is and will always be my favorite. I watch it every year after Thanksgiving.

My family gives me grief for watching the Albert Finney version, but I think they find a new non-favorite here. I just said to my husband, “Please don’t make me go.”

They all pick and choose from the book, but this one looks like they decided to rewrite it. Or just make it much more “cool”.

I acknowledge none but the True Scrooge, Alistair Sim. The rest are pale imitations at best.

(But I do enjoy Magoo and the razzleberry pudding song.)

Patrick Stewart’s one man version is really good. You can get it as book on CD thing but the Broadway show was pure bliss.

This is from the people who brought The Polar Express. It is going to suck. This will be worse than How the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. What does Jim Carrey have against Christmas anyway? Will he do a live action version of A Charlie Brown Christmas next?

I was watching the Alastair Sim version just the other day and thinking “Y’know, this could really use more Mesosphere plunges.”

I saw this trailer the other day when I went to see UP in 3D. It has a lot of “fly in your face” 3D tricks through it, which I thought were a little transprent.

However, they seem to have nailed the dead eyed uncanny valley problems, this time out.

Eh, this ticked all the wrong boxes for me. Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey - check. Lots of meaningless yelling and, yes, even explosions - check. Tiresomely inevitable sarcasm - check. Catchphrase being played - check. I had high hopes going in based on peoples’ reactions, but seeing Scrooge rocketing into the sky - it all just seemed so tired and overdone all of a sudden.

In short, it looks to me like nearly every other movie aimed at kids for the last dozen years or so. All style, no substance. I’ll wait for the reviews.

There is no indication in Dickens’ book that Scrooge is a money lender or a capitalist (i.e., a wealthy person who invests). He seems to be in the wholesale trade.

I am ashamed to admit I don’t get these (bolded) phrases, although I do recognize the “dead eye” thing, which I think is still a problem. Too much Jim Carrey being Jim Carrey for me, tho. Definitely a DVD viewing for me.

The Uncanny Valley is a phrase recently coined. It describes when something very closely resembles a human (behaviour, matched with appearance), but not quite enough of a resemblance, that it makes people feel uncomfortable to watch. The dead eyed nature of poorly animated motion captured CG, or a humanoid robot, is the most common example.

However, if the figures are a lot more stylised and less human-like, people can accept them much easier.

Ah, thank you. Damn good phrase, that - it will now be a part of my lexicon.

Horray, Jim Carrey is reviving his Grinch character!

My favorite is still Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol. I especially like the song where the kid is obsessing over razzleberry pudding.

I do love a good 3D movie, but this one has the following things going wrong for it:

[li]Jim Carey[/li][li]A Christmas Carol has been done to death[/li][li]Jim Carey[/li][/ul]
I’ll probably miss it.
