Oh, I was also wondering if the Dormouse said anything in “Alice in Wonderland”.
did he do the Twinkle Twinkle little bat poem? or was that the Mad Hatter?
The dormouse said:
“Sixteenth.”
“You’ve no right to grow here.”
“Yes, but I grow at a reasonable pace, not in that ridiculous fashion.”
and
“Treacle.”
Hope that answers your question.
I always thought the Dormouse said, “Feed your head.” At least, that’s the next line of the song, whether or not it appeared in “Alice in Wonderland.”
Didn’t he also say, “You might as well say that ‘I breathe when I sleep’ is the same thing as ‘I sleep when I breathe.’”?
“Feed your head”
I may be mistaken but I think you are confusing the Disney movie with the actual book.
The dormouse says a few things. Here’s the chapter where he makes his appearance.
During the tea party:
“Twinkle twinkle twinkle twinkle twinkle…”
“Of course, of course; just what I was going to remark myself.”
“I wasn’t asleep, I heard every word you fellows were saying.”
“Once upon a time there were three little sisters, and their names were Elsie, Lacie, and Tillie; and they lived at the bottom of a well–”
“They lived on treacle.”
“So they were, very ill.”
“It was a treacle-well.”
“If you can’t be civil, you’d better finish the story for yourself.”
“One, indeed!”
“And so these three little sisters–they were learning to draw, you know–”
“Treacle.”
“Of course they were --well in.”
“They were learning to draw, and they drew all manner of things–everything that begins with an M–”
“–that begins with an M, such as mouse-traps, and the moon, and memory, and muchness-- you know you say things are ‘much of a muchness’–did you ever see such a thing as a drawing of a muchness?”
During the trail:
“I wish you wouldn’t squeeze so. I can hardly breathe.”
“You’ve no right to grow here.”
“Yes, but I grow at a reasonable pace, not in that ridiculous fashion.”
The Mad Hatter’s Testimony:
`But what did the Dormouse say?’ one of the jury asked.
`That I can’t remember,’ said the Hatter.
