Massie, like so many others, bought into much of the hype and sensationalism about Rasputin. Since Rasputin’s death, authors and screenplay writers have, with the passing time, embroidered further and further on the sensational myths and rumors surrounding him, ignoring many who’ve attested to his humanitarian efforts. Ask yourself what makes bigger profits: books about kind humanitarians or books about evil monsters?
Try reading “Rasputin and The Jews: A Reversal of History”. It has a great bibliography and lots of footnotes, substantiating every bit of information. The book also explains why past efforts to vindicate Rasputin have been unsuccessful, with a bloodthirsty audience. No one really wants to hear what a good person he was. Even if it’s the truth. People enjoy believing in evil monsters, even when it’s a myth.
