I put together a small scrapbook of my two sons (her only grandchildren). I planned on spending a couple hours throwing it together Saturday afternoon, but ended up staying awake until nearly 4 am finishing it. Who knew cutting and pasting was so much damn work? But, it did turn out very cute and she really liked it so it was a happy ending all around.
My mother:
Asked for, and received, an e-card and an invitation to Gmail. Go figure.
His mother: got flowers. And we all (two sons, one daughter-in-law, and me) chipped in to buy a gazebo for her backyard. And a really nice card.
First, let me say, START way cool! I got a mental image of the surprise on her face.
I got my Mom a gift card from Dillard’s department store. The woman lives to shop so what better gift. Also, I got her a white orchid, which is something I’ve been doing since my younger brother died three years ago. He always got her a white orchid and a (IMO really tacky but Mom loves em) Mother’s Day collector plate from Avon (shudder). So, now, I do the orchid and my sister (our brother and she were twins) gets the plate. We just wanted to keep that tradition alive.
A story about the orchid.
I went to church with Mom yesterday. She told every little old lady in that church (and I know em all, I grew up going to that church) about the orchid and how I’ve kept it up since Gary died. I got lots of “Bless your hearts” and “You’re just the sweetist things” from the LOLs. LOLs do carry on over the strangest stuff. Of course lil’ ol’ attention whore me soaked it all in.
My mom is dead.
But in honor of her, I usually plant four flats of flowers at my dad’s. I’ll probably do it in the next couple weeks.
