What do other countries name, what one could call their version of Hollywood? (a place where all of the film industry is centralized?)
I know that England has the famous Pinewood Studios (007, etc) but is that just one studio, or a place like Hollywood, full of different studios? The same goes for Japan’s TOHO Studios (Godzilla, Mothra, Gamera etc)
Especially since there is “Hollywood” as in the film/television production industry, which is located all over Southern California and “Hollywood”, a district of Los Angeles where there aren’t many studios anymore. (Although the gates to Paramount are pretty damn cool to look at when you drive by.)
In India, it’s called Bollywood (in Bombay), but I’m not sure if that’s just a nickname given to the movie-industry area by other countries or if Indians call it Bollywood too.
I read in a book about the post war meeting between Churchill, Truman, and Stalin at Potsdam (a suburb of Berlin) a brief aside that Potsdam’s main previous fame was due to it being the center of Germany’s film industry.
In Sweden we have Trollywood, it’s named so because it lies in the city Trollhättan. Actually I think its real name is Film i Väst but the media went on a creativity joyride and decided to call it Trollywood.
