Not all librarian jobs are the sit-behind-a-desk type. I applied (and didn’t get - I was right fresh out of library school, would have actually had to report before the graduation ceremony) for the coolest job - Ship’s Librarian for SUNY Maritime’s Summer Sea program. You go all over the world! Tell me that wouldn’t be the coolest job evah!
Lack of prioritization. You can “learn” what you want to learn from the internet any day of the week, anytime of the year, at any hour. However in the structured environment of a class you need to do your assignments and your work within that structure, if you feel like you need to learn other stuff at the same time, just remind yourself that the internet isn’t going anywhere, and you will be able to browse to your heart’s content once you finish your assigned work.
If you ever want to find work in a specific field you need to do more than just “LEARNING” you need the credentials and that only comes via successfully completing the classwork.
There’s only really one job I’m experienced with that would pay you to go from place to place but it’s definitely not for you. You might try freelance journalism. Even careers that send you around the world (anthropology, journalism, and especially the military) typically you have a boss that tells you where to go and you have a period of time where you have to stay there. As an anthropologist to do meaningful work you need to stay in a given place for a significant period of time, for example. As a freelance journalist you basically get to go where you want and when you want, it’s a big risk though. If no one buys what you write, you’ll end up broke and it gets more and more difficult to travel the world and enjoy yourself if you’re in abject poverty.
You may not be cut out for any career, as opposed to being cut out for many. So maybe you will be happier just travelling the world doing odd-jobs. It’s not the safest bet, as you never know when you might hit a rough stretch where your odd-jobs won’t provide the money you need. But some people are happier just going through life without worrying about the next day.
