I don’t think I need to offer proof or too many examples of this. It’s obvious. From Hitler to the Russian Pogroms to modern-day radical Muslims (no offense to any moderate Muslims on these boards intended ): extreme rightwing people and groups seem to always hate Jewish people. And I would like to know why.
The answer to this question may not be that obvious either. For one thing, the reason given often differs. Hitler claimed Jewish people were racially inferior. Radical Muslims claim it because of the Jewish state of Israel. What common thread is there in all of this?
Well, from what I remember of Revelations, when the Antichrist comes, most of the Jews will follow him because he is the savior they have been waiting for (seeing as how they don’t think Jesus was the Messiah). So essentially they will all follow him right into the pits of Hell.
Why this is reason enough to hate or loathe people of another faith, when you can’t even prove the absolute truth of your own, is a mystery to me. But then again, I stopped trying to rationalize Christianity 3 years ago, when I was smart enough to get the hell out while I was still young.
It’s not a right wing thing, it’s a bigot thing. Communist Russia, especially under Stalin, murdered more than its share of Jews.
Possible reasons include:
*among nutty Christians, traditional ‘justification’ because the Jews killed Christ
*wherever they go, Jews are a relatively small community, often an identifiable one, composed of relatively recent immigrants
*traditional association of Jews with academia and finance makes some people suspicious
You’re aware, of course, that radical left-wingers, such as Stalin, hated Jews, too, right? And let’s not forget many communists in Poland and Czechoslovakia were Anti-Zionists.
Jews stick out like a sore thumb and have lots of money… there is no easier target… and having a distraction (aka as enemy) makes politics that much easier.
What’s “left wing” about Farrahhan? The NOI is down the line conservative on social issues, pro-gun, pro-life, anti-gay, anti-drug, etc. Why do people label Farrakhan as a liberal?
I reject the premise of the OP. It seems that anyone who hates Jews is called a ‘right-winger.’ Obviously the Soviets (and worse yet, Polish Communists) were both anti-Semitic and left-wing.
Further, I see no modern examples of modern right-wing people (say Pat Buchanan) being anti-Semitic. In fact the reverse seems to be true. They (tend to be) are strong supporters of Israel.
There are several different political affiliations that can be identified as right-wing. For example:
-Neoconservatives–Generally strong supporters of Israel, a good number of whom are Jewish. I think one could safely say that neocons, by and large, are not anti-Semitic (though whether their actions effect positive changes for most Jews is highly debatable).
-Paleoconservatives–e.g., Pat Buchanan. Nothing intrinsically anti-Semitic about their stances. They oppose American involvement in other countries and thus disapprove of US aid to Israel.
-Libertarians–Pretty much the same deal as the paleocons in their foreign policy.
-Christian Fundamentalists–Generally ambivalent: strong supporters of Israel; occasionally differing views on who is responsible for Jesus’s death, etc.
-Neo-Nazis–Mostly employ a congeries of anti-Semitic documents, myths, etc. I’d say exact political ideology is secondary for them.
And of course there have been plenty of left-wing anti-Semites (of various stripes) as well.
What is radical right-wing? Small gov’t, free market, pro-military, xenophobic, blinded by religion?
Was Hitler radical right-winger? NSDAP stood for ‘National Socialist Demoratic Worker Party’. To me, that sounds as Left as it gets. (For comparison, Lenin Bolsheviks were RSDRP, i.e. ‘Russian Socialist Democratic Workers Party’). Nazis weren’t completely atheist, but certainly hardly religious at all. Xenophobes, yes.
An oversimplification based on a particular group of Jews at a particular time. This was not always the case and anti-Semitism often existed as a set of contradictions: at a given time, poor Jews could be looked at with contempt and considered subhuman scum while rich Jews were regarded with fear and distrust.
Although the second part can probably be taken as an overarching historical theme–scapegoating has often proven a convenient solution for politicians during periods of strife.
Well, right-wing in a traditional and original european sense means traditionalist, nationalistic, militaristic, communist/anarchist/alien hating- so the Nazis were right-wing by those criteria.
In much of Eastern and Central Europe at the turn of the century nearly every capitalist was jewish. The resentments of the proletariat there at the economic inequities of capitalism often manifested themselves as anti-semitism rather than pro-socialism, hence why some german socialist (I forget who) called anti-semitism “the socialism of fools”.
Mebbe, but I don’t think Jackson is nearly as actively and adamantly anti-semitic as Sharpton (or Farrakhan fo that matter). At least not openly. He’s much too shrewd and seasoned a pol for that.
Why do some right-wingers hate Jews? Tradition. The Right is big on tradition. In cultures where it used to be traditional to hate Jews, certain radical right-wingers hate Jews. It’s pretty simple, actually.
Now, as to certain radical left-wingers- they hate Jews for completely different reasons.
