Biden is a genuinely lovely man. I think he is statesman. But the only reason he won is because Trump was so utterly reprehensible and hated more than loved by the majority of voters. And even at that, he got 10M more to fall in love with him than last time. Some seriously deep soul searching needs to happen nationally about that; but it won’t. In contrast, Biden is a much needed relief and deep longing for a return “normal” and that is the only reason he won. And don’t kid yourself, Biden is a return of a kind, not a step forward. But Democrats did not win on policy issues and no positive amount of spin is going to get you there. Democrats lost seats in the HoR, won a seat in the Senate and it remains to be seen if they will win any more. All predictions and history shows that Dems stand to lose more seats in 2022. Being a pollyanna about it isn’t going to alter that reality.
Modhat: Actually myself & iiandyiiii and anyone else along for the ride need to stop sidetracking this thread. We need to get back to the subject of the Op.
I removed my last off-topic post.
Did you just mod yourself?
Well my point is that the Republicans don’t stand to lose much since they barely lost. My take on the election is that Trump lost and bigly, but the Republicans have many reasons to think they won the election. And if McTurtle remains majority leader, he will do everything in his power to make Biden’s presidency a failure. And senators like Collins will express their concern but go along in the end. Then come 2022, the Rs will point to the failure to get anything done and win the midterms.
Already the Rs (in particular the Munchkin) have taken action whose only discernible purpose is to stall the economy. Actions they would not have taken had Trump won.
I still see the election as a repudiation of Trump, but basically a victory for the Rs.
