Not a dirty question, I hope. I’m reading Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Robber Bride’ where one of the characters describes living in a women’s residence in the 60s.
One of the girls does a “trick involving a glass of water, an empty toilet-paper roll, a broomstick, an aluminium pie pan and an egg”.
What could this trick be? I thought it might be some kind of balancing act but I can’t see where the water fits in.
I saw someone do this on David Letterman’s “Stupid Human Tricks” once, except with four of everything except the broomstick and the pan.
You set the glass of water on the table, and put the pie pan on top of it. The edge of the pan should just about line up with the edge of the table. Put the cardboard tube on the pan directly above the water glass. Put the egg on top of the tube.
Then, you place the broomstick against the edge of the table, and hold it in place with your hand or your knee. With the other hand, you pull the top of the stick back (it should be under a lot of tension because you’re pressing it against the table), and snap it really hard against the table. The tray and tube fly away, and the egg drops straight into the water.
The dude on Letterman did it with four eggs into four glasses, and it was pretty cool.
Dagnabit!! I read this thread yesterday and then seeing the OP title again today I remember that I dreamed about doing this last night. Somehow the eggs were too big for the glass and kept breaking. Damn you Scorpio for influencing my dreams!!
