What do the dopers think of the Kate Middleton brouhaha

Thirded.

And the Marchioness has her own Wikipedia page According to Wiki, she’s 39, and her husband is 63…

There are a ton of things it could have been. I work with a lady who had endometriosis and when they did her hysterectomy, she had adhesions all inside her abdominal cavity and it was a long 12 weeks before she could work again.

I know a lady who had a gallbladder out, and they nicked something, and there were complications, and what with one thing or another, she was in and pit of the hospital for several weeks and sick for months after.

I know a third woman who had an abcess in her colon that ruptured and it was an ungodly mess, requiring one surgery and hospital stay just to stabilize her, and then a second much more elaborate surgery to actually fix the problem.

All these were women in their late 30s-40s. In all cases, they made complete recoveries without any lasting effects. And in all cases, they could not have pulled off “raidiating health and youth” for quite some time

So its easy to imagine she has some condition that is embarassing and she doesn’t want to share. On the other hand, if she appears looking like shit, it will be all “Kate is dying of cancer!”, but the lack of pictures is leading to speculation.

The thing about the hysterectomy theory… I had one last year (by that I mean I had to have all the lady parts removed from the cervix upward) and the recovery was only about 8 weeks. And I was certainly able to go out into public before all that time was up (I did have some activity restrictions).

This four month recovery period is really, really long for a hysterectomy. Especially these days. So… I’m not at all convinced a hysterectomy is what happened.

Maybe it’s different in the UK, but 10-14 days in the hospital seems really long for a planned surgery. I had abdominal surgery last year with a 2-3 month recovery, but I was out of the hospital after a day, and I was hobbling around in public after a week.

Who knows why they didn’t just stick with “it was a significant surgery and she’ll be out of the public eye for 3 months.” Let people gossip.

I assume the future Queen doesn’t have to worry about whether her insurance will cover an extended stay.

Sure, but I assume her normal residence is better equipped to deal with security needs and such, and they wouldn’t keep her in the hospital longer than necessary.

It’s not like they’re sticking her in South London General or something. The royals probably have hospital suites that are nicer and more secure than most five-star hotels.

ETA: Apparently the royals go to a 58-bed private hospital that boasts four nurses for each patient and has its own library and swimming pool and a kitchen with world-class chefs.

And yet the women of the royal family barely stay in hospital any time at all after having a baby. Diana stayed in less than 24 hours after giving birth to William and about the same after Harry was born. (In the US, insurance companies have to cover 48 hours in the hospital after a vaginal birth.) Kate Middleton left the hospital a mere 10 hours after Charlotte was born.

The royals have a large medical team (something like 20 people) on call who can zip to the royal residence at a moment’s notice, and plenty of household help. I’m sure there was a good reason for such a long hospital stay that was planned well in advance. I don’t have to know what it was.

And when I read this on twitter I almost had a heart attack due to laughter:

« The Princess of Wales is missing and the spare Prince is in exile and the King is treating his cancer with herbs. If this were the 1300s France would be looking to invade. »

But things don’t always go well. Post-surgical complications can happen to anyone, and all abdominal surgery is pretty risky. Endometriosis can make for a much messier hysterectomy. Bowels get nicked.

There’s nothing implausible about needing 12 or 16 weeks to recover. And there’s a lot of space between “able to go out in pubic” and “able to go out in public radiating health and vitality”.

I mean, maybe she put on 15 pounds while recovering, and she doesn’t want to listen to endless commentary on how it’s a shame she let herself go.

I just saw Dune 2 so thought this was pretty great:

It’s even possible that the shitty photoshop job is a deliberate tactic to give people something to endlessly comment on, rather than a trivial minor truth of some sort.

I mean this is the royals we are taking about here. Do you really expect them to hire the best person based on merit, not some useless toff who went to the right public schools and Oxbridge colleges?

If they want the ,major press agencies to carry them. Which they did. That’s why the agencies are super pissed off.

While I don’t generally care about the crazy British Royal Family, I do like mysteries and puzzles.

Kate, as a prominent royal, is seriously obligated to perform a number of public duties. Esp. in order to contrast them selves from the Two They Don’t Like to Talk About.

To be out of the public eye for so long means something bad is going on.

To put out an obviously fake photo means either:
It is even worse than that.
Or the minions in the palace are up to their old tricks. Trying to force Kate to do something public.

At this point I just don’t see enough info to make a specific guess other than “She’s got a major medical condition that’s waaaay beyond a botched tummy tuck.”

This is my favorite photo of him.

Their engagement was announced two days before the wedding . . . and she gave birth to twins four months later.

And now we find that William has been cheating on poor Kate!

What a cad!

What a bounder!

Sounds like he takes after the old blockhead.

I have known many women personally who didn’t stay in the hospital for as long as the insurance paid. Most of the time, they faced little hassle as long as they agreed to do the PKU screening if it hadn’t been done already.

These are great, and SFW. Scroll down about halfway for the Bernie Sanders version.

Just dropped into this thread because I was wondering why all the fuss about a Photoshopped family photo. A lot more editing than the stories I’ve seen have described. If Kate’s face was indeed lifted from a Vogue magazine cover, doesn’t Vogue have a copyright claim against someone?
