What do you buy for yourself, on vacation?

In a couple of weeks I’m going on holiday to Azerbaijan. I’ll be buying probably five or six carpets. Sometimes people call me strange

Not at all, and your post reminds me- I’m a hypocrite. I DID travel once and buy for everyone, as well as our home. A job in Marrakech came up. I did the trip to the local antiquities store. The basement was filed with ( no kidding ) tens of thousands of small kneeling carpets. Sold to the tourists. There were also more pricey and unique larger carpets to be seen. I bought 10 kneeling carpets and then went looking for a large one to use as a wall hanging, for our home. It is roughly 7 feet by 7 feet and is obviously made of hand-dyed lots of wool. I was so captivated by it’s beauty that when told the price, I only hesitated for 5 minutes. ( I’m not wealthy. The thing was pricey. ) It is a work of art the likes of which I’ve rarely seen hanging on a wall. I STILL sit and look at it sometimes at dinner, which tells me I chose wisely. Usually I do not really look at the art in my home very much, even the art I made.

So, admittedly, I bought rugs and an ancient pounded silver necklace for my wife and a silver bracelet for myself on that trip. Rare trip, that one.
