What do you call a person from.....

I was recently talking with a guy from Connecticut, and I asked him, “What do you call a person from Connecticut?” And he said, “Um…cold?” But he couldn’t up with a term. We wondered “Connecticutter?” And what about someone from Massachusetts? Or, how about Kansas and Arkansas? Is someone from Maine a Maniac? I know that someone from Illinois is an Illini. And here in California, a person from Marin County is a Marinite, and someone from LA is an Angeleno. Most everywhere else the terms are kind of obvious, though I’m sure there’s other place names as well that don’t lend themselves to terms for natives. Any ideas out there? Steve the Californian (Or Californicator?)

Well, up in Vermont and New Hampshire,we called them Massholes.

Dorothy was a Kansan.

Someone from Maine is a “Mainer,” though Mainiac is also used.

An answer to all of the demonyms for the 50 US states

In Rhode Island, too. (We call ourselves “Roe-Dylan-ers”).

I’ve never heard “Illini” used to refer to Illinoisians in general; rather, it refers to students and/or athletes at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign).

So the answer to the OP’s question, apparently, is “Connecticuter.” Cuter than what?

People from Michigan are called Michiganders.

Connecticut: though not popular with everyone, I like Nutmegger (for the nutmeg state). Connecticuters works too.

Imagine my concern at being from Tampa.

A Jewish friend of mine moved to Michigan. We call him a meshugana

Utah=Utards.

We never used anything but Maniac.

And in Boston, we’d usually think of people from Connecticut as:

New Yorkers.

Well, the males are. The females are Michigeese.

Good one!

I think the official term for someone from Arkansas isn’t an Arkansan but an Arkansawyer.

Thanks everyone. The Wikipedia referral cleared it all up. And I stand corrected about Illinois persons. And to ShibbOleth in Tampa, it seems you’ve got the same dilemma as the folks who belong to Mensa. Aren’t they called Mensese?

I thought they were “down-easters”.

Conneticutioners?

I call them all Septics…
