It seems to me that there’s a fairly common trope used in popular music where the first verse or so of a song has a low-profile or no rhythm section, and then, coming into the second verse, the rhythm that is to continue for most of the song comes in with a noticeable “oomph!” even though the tempo stays the same. Does this have a name?
We do stuff like that all the time in my band. I don’t know of an official, technical name for it - although I am curious if one does exist. We just call it “doing a build,” as in “okay, I’ll start alone on guitar, and then you build on that on bass and finally the drums kick in…”
