What do you call the candy bits that go on ice cream?

So, can anyone enlighten us as to the derivation of “jimmies”? The other terms make sense on their own, where does “jimmy” come from? Was there a local bloke who made them?

According to Wikipedia, the etymology is unknown. Just Born (the company that makes Peeps and Mike & Ike’s) claims that its founder invented chocolate jimmies and named them after an employee, but this is apocryphal at best.
