The Stooges’ Fun House is the greatest rock album of all time, bar none.
If I had to pick one and only one, that would be it. Fortunately we get ten here, so I’ll add these:
The Band, The Band
Band of Gypsys, Jimi Hendrix
The Beatles, The Beatles
Bob Marley & The Wailers: Live!, Bob Marley & The Wailers
Ill Communication, Beastie Boys
Live at Georgia Theatre, Derek Trucks Band
A Love Supreme, John Coltrane
Remain in Light, Talking Heads
A Tribute to Jack Johnson, Miles Davis
I’m astonished that nobody has mentioned
Exile on Main Street - Rolling Stones
It is a stunning achievement and incredibly influential. I’m not a guy to revel in nostalgia, but it is an incredible album.
More modern favorites include:
Beck - Odelay
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Daft Punk - Homework
Jay Z - Black Album
Dixie Chicks - Fly
Green Day - American Idiot
Something by Madona
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
National - Boxer (Maybe not one of the greatest of all time, but probably MY favorite of all time - right now)
Oasis - Be Here Now
PSY - Gangham Style (Maybe not yet, but could be the first of a J-Pop/K-Pop invasion)
I would like to add:
“Forever Changes” by Love.
“The Turning Point” by John Mayall.
U2- Joshua Tree is my vote for the greatest album (singular) of all time. Add whatever you want to the runner-ups.
Hot Tuna: Double Dose
Hawkwind: Space Ritual
Neil Young: On The Beach
Rory Gallagher: Live In Europe/Stage Struck (It was a double album when I bought it.)
Rubber Soul - Beatles
Surrealistic Pillow - Jefferson Airplane
Ladies of the Canyon - Joni Mitchell
Stand Up - Jethro Tull
Hangman’s Beautiful Daughter - The Incredible String Band
After the Goldrush - Neil Young
Two good choices here! I’d personally go for Emmylou’s next album, Red Dirt Girl.
Have you heard Spirit by Willie Nelson? It’s probably my favourite of his albums, released in 1996. In some ways it’s got a similar feel to Redheaded Stranger, but I prefer the songs.
Oh, and to answer the OP, Darkness On The Edge Of Town by Springsteen is the best album ever made.
Bat Out Of Hell
Lots of my favorites here, so I’ll just add…

Dylan - Blood On The Tracks
Rockpile - Seconds of Pleasure
Uncle Tupelo - No Depression
Cymande

Most of my suggestions have already surface but the one that’s conspicuously missing is Making Movies by Dire Straits.
Yep, if I could only pick one, this would be it. And I don’t even like U2 all that much. I think “Joshua Tree” is overrated and everything since “Achtung Baby” is utter garbage. But here they nailed it.
