I’m with Uncle Beer on the ‘background noise’ thing. I always have the TV on, but I also always have 17 other things going on at the same time. I think it’s 'cause I live alone and if I’m reading or online the house can seem SOOOO quiet and kinda spooky at times.
Also, I keep the hooch handy.
Women want to know what’s on T.V.,
Men want to know what ELSE is on T.V.
So I surf. The mute control on my remote/tv has two settings. The first time you push it, it just turns down the volume, the second time you push it, it actually mutes all the way. Very nice for those loud t.v. ads, or for talking on the phone.
I too frequently forget what I was watching.

I can’t remember the last time I was watching tv and JUST watching tv. I am usually on the computer and only half-watching out of the corner of my eye… so during the commercials I just pay more attention to what I’m doing.
