I was getting nearly nightly severe leg cramps. I blamed alcohol, dehydration, Lipitor, etc. This went on for a couple months. I tried drinking lots of water, but still got them. I was ready to see my doctor and they stopped happening.
I know it’s anecdotal, but I recommend people with frequent leg cramps consider (but only consider) seeing a doctor. Worked for me.
Wow, people are suggesting everything from potato chips to a prescription mediation for something we don’t even know what it is or how it starts. What if it is menstrual cramps? OP could you please clarify this or else would everyone else read Qadgop’s post #13 (and subsequent ones). This thread is a good example of why “no medical advice” used to be a rule around here.
I wish I could say that. I take potassium, magnesium and calcium supplements nightly. I drink so much water that I slosh when I walk. I still get cramps at least once a week, and sometimes they are the horrible kind on the inside of the thigh that I can’t stretch. All I can do is swear loudly and beat on the muscle with my fist to try and make it release.
Sometimes it’s as simple as not drinking enough water. Make sure you are well hydrated all day long. I know that I tend to get those charlie horse cramps at night when I’m not careful about drinking enough water. Make sure your piss is clear to light yellow in color. If it’s medium to dark yellow, you are not well hydrated.
