What do you drink with your Steak Dinner?

What kind of person drinks milk? The kind of person who never, ever orders alcohol. My date, to whom I am married, doesn’t mind it in the least. She doesn’t drink, either. And as far as she’s concerned, I am cool. Hers is the only opinion on the subject that matters to me. Got any more insults you’d like to toss out?

Dos Equis

I’m with ya here, honey. Except I’ll take my tea unsweetened, lemon optional. My hubby has hot tea with cream , and that gets some weird looks. He once asks for some milk for his tea and the server brought out a huge, 16 oz tankard.

Good call, either that or an ice cold glass of 2%.

For me it would depend a little on how the steak was prepared, and my mood, and the sides, etc.

Either a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Cabernet Franc, a Syrah/Shiraz or a Sangiovese.

Man, I just really don’t get the taste of anything with beer. I just hate it. And the worse the beer is the worse it is almost always. But red wine with steak is another story. They just compliment each other so well. I never really thought much of it until I tried it and MAN I was impressed!

Wow…a man after my own heart! Please say the steak is a nice, thick filet…cooked no more than medium rare.

I’m a good Celtic lassie myself. I wonder if we have similar tastes due to some strange genetic predisposition?

Red wine: Chianti , an oaky Cabernet, Rioja; something big and beefy. If I was adventurous maybe a Hungarian Bull’s Blood or something Argentinian.

Beer: A nice pint of Guinness, not cold-flow, only in Ireland, and not from a can or bottle (I’m a Guinness purist).

If it HAD to be non-alcoholic, probably water…but I’ve been having wine with my steak since I was about 14, so it would be very weird for me.

Once you’ve eaten Bistecca Fiorentina in Tuscany with a good Chianti Classico you won’t want it any other way from then on. Italians do wonderful things with slabs of meat!

Water.

I’m not a fan of drinking alcohol with my meals.
The old adage of “eating’s cheating” is still adhered to by myself.

If you want to drink then drink, don’t make a mess of it by eating something.

Casual steak dinners can be accompanied nicely with a good sangria. Especially the way I make it, with a good bit of Grand Marnier mixed in.

In my experience, not eating anything when you drink tends to lead to more of a mess…

Saturday night I had a delightful 22oz Porterhouse Au Poivre. Drink of choice, vodka martini.

My comments were made in jest, in case you didn’t see the smiley. I thought good-natured ribbing was still an accepted practice.

Hugh Porterhouse, m-rare, Baked Spud…butter,Chives & Becks Dark!

Anchor Porter. Mmmmm, chocolatey.
If I’m going non-alc, I drink milk. Every meal, if I can. I’m gonna have bones of steel when I’m 80.

Poisoned white wine with the fish, poisoned red wine with the meat…

You’ve pretty well called it - medium rare at the most and nice, tender and thick. At a restaraunt, I have to order “rare” just to get a real medium, so I come up with creative descriptions like “whisper a scary story about fire to it, then bring it to me…”

Must be in our blood…

No, there is no alternative to good wine. And the best for a steak dinner is a wonderful Californean Zinfandel, preferably Rombauer. This is perfection.

A nice Australian Merlot, or a good cab. I don’t like spending more than $15 on a bottle of wine, and the Aussie’s make great reds in that price range. I like to stick with the McWilliam’s, Jacob’s Creek or Lindeman’s. Beer fills me up and makes me burp; When the plate is full of nice food and I am eating with nice people this is just not pleasant.

Besides, I heard on a show called, “Wine Basics”, that the tannins in the wine will remove the fatty deposit that steak will leave behind on the tongue. Which after three or four bites will build up enough to diminish the taste of the steak. So, in the end, the wine is a scientifically proven necessity to enjoy steak!

Mr. Goob and I are on the same wavelength. I particualrly enjoy a Grey Goose Vodka Martini, Rocks, 2 olives. Makes my steak taste yummy! Of course like everyone else, if the table’s drinking red, I’ll drink that instead.
