What do you look for in coin collecting?

This thred is inspired by the “Pick Up A Penny?” thread. I stated that my dad and I are collecting. When we collect, we look for the new quarters, and pretty much anything under 1970. Dad’s also been buying the bigger, better coins. What do look for?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Perfection<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I have been collecting for many years and I have to say one of the best coins I have ever seen pass in front of my eyes was a mint condition pure 1884 one dollar gold piece. It was perfect, not a flaw on the entire coin. It was encased the day it was minted and stayed in that case for 89 years. Since then it has been moved only once into another identical case that is brand new.

You look for age, mint, imperfections, luster, Metalergy and authenticity. It is all important if you want to invest in a fine collection. For the passer-by collecter, imperfections, mint and age are the top three IMHO.

Coins.
